Pros Janus enabled, great sound, good price, attractive, FM Tuner, silcone case included
Cons Touch Navigation system could be better
Summary I gave up on Samsung ever coming up with the new firmware for my yh-920, so that I could use Napster to Go and Yahoo Unlimited.
This player works flawlessly with both music services, has an FM tuner, and its sound is wonderful.
My only complaint is with the touch strip which seems not as speedy or precise as the ipod click wheel.
Pros sound quality, battery life, FM reception, very usable, customizable eq with SRS WOW, look and feel
Cons battery not removable, scroll bar touchy
Summary My first purchase was a Creative ZEN MICRO 5gb. Unlike most, I LOVED the navigation system on that unit, but the FM reception was very poor. I returned it in exchange for the iriver H10 20gb for that reason, plus the fact that I also found out I had much more music than previously thought. The first thing I tried out on the H10 was the FM reciever, and the reception was 100 times better than the Creative Zen Micro.
As far as sound quality goes, this little unit really puts out! I listen to everything from Folk to Stravinsky and have not been disappointed. Make sure to work with the customizable EQ and SRS WOW and you will not be let down.
Here's my gripes: The scroll pad is a little too sensitive and occasionally mistakes up for down (this has gotten much better as I've gotten used to it), it uses only Windows Media Player 10 for song synchronization (no dedicated iriver software). One thing I liked about the Creative Zen Micro was the ability to synchronize MS Outlook with it. This can be done with the iriver also using the text feature, it just takes a little more work.
The ear buds (sennheiser) that come with the H10 are really pretty good, just make that you play around with the SRS WOW and customizable EQ settings.
Although I do a lot with digital photography (www.pbase.com/kilen), I have yet to do much with the picture viewing capabilities of the H10.
Pros solid case, good capacity, cheap
Cons interface is horrible and slow, unit locks up
Summary I decided on this model because I got a good deal on it. Or so I thought. Took a while to get my music on it without it freezing. I tried using the random feature, but it would only play songs from a small section of the total (an 'issue' they are looking in to). Then I figured out how to use play lists, so I just randomized that and was happy... at least until I left it powered off for over 24 hours at which point it lost my spot in the list. Having to scroll through a couple thousand songs to find my spot again is not my idea of useful. Besides that it takes a good minute to even load up the play list when the player is full. After all this the player started hanging during the automatic power down if you leave music paused. The only way to get it responsive again was to hit the hard reset button (which cleared my spot in the list again). So I sent that one back, support was actually very helpful and turn around time was great. Loaded all my songs back up and it worked fine for a couple days. Then it locked up again today. Unfortunately I bought it over the summer so I can't return it to the store, but I am going to try to get my money back from iRiver and get a different player.
Pros This player is able to handle MP3 at 320kps. Which if you are going for sound quality means something. The eq and srs give you quite a bit of control over your sound.
Cons This unit does allow you to drag and drop on to it but, once on the unit you can not drag and drop inside the unit. Even if you do use the Win Media Player.
Summary I really like this player. I got it for my birthday and it has been great. I do recommened going and getting the software update for the unit. When you do install the updates for the unit make sure you have your music saved somewhere besides in the unit. (Due to the fact all info will be lost when it gets done with it's update) The sound quality on this unit is one of the best I have every heard from a MP3 player and that includes the all powerful ipod. Due remember though that you will not be able to play your movies with this unit. The built in radio works great, and so does the ablility to record with it. Looking to record a jam session. The built in mic works well. (note: I do a lot of recording with pro grear.) I would have given it a 10 if the drag and drop would have worked better. When my wife borrows it I have to make sure her music gets into the right folders. Getting where it is you want to go inside the unit is easy enough. As with any MP3 player just takes a few mins looking at the manual that came with it.
Pros This mp3 sycns music 3x faster than my past mp3's plus has programmable radio stations
Cons Its a little bigger than what i would want it to be plus the case is not very sturdy because its rubber
Summary Overall this is an excellent mp3 player, you might have a little trouble at first trying to program the radio stations but its easy after a few tries. And if you have .txt images you won't be able to but it on the device due to the fact WMP 10 does not recognize the codez
