"iRiver H10 VS Apple iPod Mini"
Pros: Vivid Colour Screen, Photo Integration, TXT Viewing, Plays WMA, MP3, WAV, Good UI, Data Storage, WMP 10, Good Performance, Durable, Good Accesories Shipped
Cons: Charging needs USB Cable, Short Battery Life
Summary: Features
Both players can play MP3 files while the H10 has the additional abbilities to play WMA and WAV files as well as having a colour screen, FM Radio, FM and Voice Recording, Photo Integration and .txt file viewing not to mention the data partition.
A landslide victory by the H10
User Interfaces
The iPod Mini boasts the CLickwheel which is one of the best UI i have ever used but with the problem of going round and round. The H10 uses a very capable touchstrip with the major controls on the side. I have had no problems with the side on buttons as it alows me to work the player with 1 hand. The side buttons copme into good use when you are at the gym and are jogging. With the Mini i have hit the wrong button 10 times before i get the right one.
I personally have no problem with the SIde On controls but some people will find it irratating. So a win for the Mini
Player Design
TThe H10 is taller and slimmer than the Mini which is short and slightly stubby. The height could be a pain for some people (not for me) but the slim form factor allows it to slip easier into your pocket.
Again a slight edging out of the Mini by the H10
Accessories (shipped with the Player)
The H10 ships with some decent Sennheiser MX300 earphones which are pretty good but not great. However the iPod earphones aren't much better. The real difference is that the H10 ships with a lovely rubber flexible carrying case (a lot like the Flexi iSkin eVo protector for iPod) while the iPod has a belt clip trhat offers no protection whatsoever
The H10 comes out a winner in this category
Customer Service
Most people complain of the awful iRiver CS, I think thatâ??s overrated garbage. For me when I had a problem with the headphones I simply sent them a mail and in 1 and a half days they replied and then I got my replacement headphones in a week. If you can't wait a day then something is truly wrong with you.
Apple is just as good as they replied to my software query in 1 and a bit days.
Both CS are as good as each other, in my opinion
Player Operation
People say that the H10 is sluggish: garbage. the H10 zips along the menus easily (especially if you install the 2.1 firmware update) while i think the Mini is slightly slower (not really noticable and open to disccusion).
I would have to call this one a win for the H10
Verdict
iRiver H10 - 4
Apple iPod - 1
I personally think that the H10 is simple better than the Mini expecially in the features department and if you are thinking of getting a Microdrive player. Get the H10
