"The #1 DAP for the thinking technophile"
Pros: - Build quality - solid and durable (but handle w care all the same) - Whopping 40 GB capacity (actually around 35 GB in real terms for your music, minus reserved space) - Audio quality - believe the reviews! It rocks! - Ease of use in spite of the fea
Cons: - some users will miss gapless playback, on-the-fly playlist creation - apparently being addressed by Rockbox.org team so not an issue imho - db scan function (if selected as oppsed to filetree management of files/folders) may cause slightly longer boot-

"As close to perfection as you can get"
Pros: Line and optical in AND out, FM tuner, large HD, fully-fledged remote control, good codec support, can be upgraded with third-party Rockbox firmware to increase flexibility (voids warranty)
Cons: Monochrome LCD screen, only 1300mAh battery (it lasts a fair while, but it can be upgraded, though that voids the warranty)

Pros: The problem lies with being a hard disk player. You need to defrag the drive once you've got a lot of data on it. I recommend Perfectdisk from Raxco which can defrag system files that other defrag tools can't. This will greatly speed up the boot time.
Cons: Still needs a proper gapless playback mode, shuffle and on-the-fly playlists. Rockbox are working on a freeware modded firmware that should create a much better player.

"Good capacity, excellent remote, atrocious navigation"
Pros: Plays Ogg Vorbis, the best codec in the universe. Good battery life. Sounds great. Very good remote control. Good to use as a plug & play external hard drive. No "The Man" nonsense with which Ipod users must wrangle. Nice text file display capab
Cons: I had to build a docking cradle for it. It DEFINITELY needs one. Also, navigation is way too slow. I've never used the Ipod wheel, but it's got to be better. It takes forever to find a song, whether you're using the directory structure or the ID tags.

"Brilliant, but UI a bit quirky"
Pros: Does exactly what it says on the box - plays sequentially, randomly, holds 40Gb of data
Cons: Controls a bit quirky until you get used to them. Takes a good while to boot up.
