"Outstanding in most ways"
Pros: Astounding battery life from one AA. Excellent sound quality. Capable of high volumes. Durable, compact, nice 'phones. Updated firmware fixes funky shuffle mix and other little glitches. Uploads are very fast. Major controls easy to use.
Cons: Some of the lesser controls are a little non-intuitive. Screen icons very difficult to discern. Headphone cord a little too short. Would be nice if Windows recognized without using iRiver software.

I waited forever to buy an mp3 player. I bought this iriver at Circuit City on sale for just $84.99 the day before a flight to Miami. Well, needless to say, I wasn't expecting much. I installed the software per the instructions somewhat warily, fearing some sort of crash or error, but everything worked just as promised in the manual. I was able to quickly open the program and move songs from my computer to the player (legal or not ... :>
. I disconnected the player from my computer after filling it with about 50 songs (of various bitrates). Then, I powered up the unit and pressed "play." All I can say is, "WOW!" GREAT sound quality at half volume with the included earbuds. It also came with a case and a sportband, which I'll probably never use. EQ feature is great (heavy bass is really impressive, even with stock buds!), and display is way above even iPod. So HAPPY with this purchase!!! Takes common AA batteries so it's easy to keep plenty on hand. This will be a treasured possession for a long time to come!
