Summary: I had this great player for 4 years, until I left it in the gym and it was gone forever. Now I am searching frantically to find a new or used one, but it's been discontinued. This player has no fancy looks or UI. But in every other respect, it is awesome. Let me reminisce on what I loved:
(1) You could control the directory system on the player itself, so your mp3 files go where you want them to go. Also, they are categorized by whatever directory they're in, not by their ID3 tag.
(2) Battery life! On a single AA battery, I got around 30 hours of playtime. With rechargeable batteries, this thing was amazing. I rarely needed to recharge the battery more than once every two weeks.
(3) Recording! With the built in mic, I could record lectures at school at a number of different bitrates, and even the low quality bitrates (32 kbps, 8 kHz) came out fine. So a 1:20 lecture took up around 35 MB.
(4) Joystick: no need to take it out of your pocket to change the songs or pause/restart the player. With only 3 buttons and the stick, everything was very easy to do without looking at it.
In the last year that I had it, it would sometimes power down on its own, while a song was playing. This happened about once a week. Then again, I used to clip it on my shorts and wear it at the gym, so I hit it a number of times with the weights. Either way, it was a very minor problem and negligible for me when compared to the overall awesomeness of this player.
IRIVER: PLEASE BRING THIS PLAYER BACK!!!
5.0 stars Pros: The best in its class
Cons: Flimsy battery cover
Summary: I dont know why this player is not as famous as the ipod. but it surely deserves to.
These are the things that i loved in the player-
1) sound quality: one of the best sounds i've heard in the flash player section was that of thin beauty.

Summary: I dont know why this player is not as famous as the ipod. but it surely deserves to.
These are the things that i loved in the player-
1) sound quality: one of the best sounds i've heard in the flash player section was that of thin beauty.
2) battery life : almost meets up to the standards of the iriver claims of 40 hours.
in my case it normally works up to 30 hours at high volume.
3) price : very moderately priced at about 120$.
4)Fm: it simpy rocks. very clear transmission.
5) ear phones u get with the mp3 player are surpisingly good, but i suggest that one can invest a few more dollars on other good ear phones.
6) build quality is very good.
7) lasted without any problems till date(bought it 1 1/2 years back)
8) contless features which suit both advanced and novice users. for example one can change the bit rate of any sound recorded through voice, line in or fm.
9)this THE BEST recorder come playback mp3 flash player in the markets.
what i did not like was the lame arm band(its very flimsy) and the battery cover which is also flimsy. keep your battery covers safe 'cause if u loose it, u have to shep 5.99$ for a new cover.
