"good small player"
Pros: tiny, bright screen, usb mass storage, no extra cables
Cons: sound could be better, need speed feature in navigation, so-so battery life
Summary: I bought this player mostly for the form factor. It is currently the smallest mp3 player after all. The good things that struck me at first was how small it was and how bright the oled screen is. The brightness can be changed. The screen displays all the proper information such as the filename, eq setting, volume level, bitrate, time elapsed, battery meter, play status, song index, file format and playmode. It does not support ID3 in any way seeing how the player only displays the filename when playing a song. It wouldn't have enough room to display tag information anyway. It would be nice if it were to display the tag info in one line. The small screen doesn't seem to be a limitation as you can set the scrolling speed of the filename display to a comfortable level without any choppiness.
The navigation is a different story since I don't see any way to set the speed when I hold down the buttons when navigating a long list of songs. That can be avoided by placing songs in folders to shorten long lists of songs.
The sound quality is decent for such a small player. There are a few times when a particular song doesn't seem to do so well at a higher volume, but that's probably due to a low bitrate song. The volume can go up to 30 and it is plenty loud. Somewhere between the lower 20s and the teens is ideal. There are settings you can tweak if the sound isn't to your liking. There is an EQ with presets and user defined. There is SRS/WOW which actually seem to work well with some of my songs. However you can't use SRS/WOW and your EQ setting at the same time.
The FM radio doesn't seem to work well for me. All the stations I would listen to are not picked up very well. If they are there is fm recording which is a nice feature. There is also voice recording with bitrate and replaygain setting and a clock with sleep setting. You can also set repeating loops during playback.
The player comes with a proprietary cable which is required for file transfer and charging. It plugs into the audio jack and the other end plugs into the usb port of the PC. It will act as a usb mass storage device when connected and I believe it will transfer at usb 2.0 speeds. I heard earlier models transfer at usb 1.0 speeds. The battery life is rated lower than earlier models and I'm inclined to believe them when more than a few times the player would run out of power when I expected it to go a little longer. I can go 4 hours a day for 2 days. The player will run out of power on the third day, usually before the workday is over. The earphones are also proprietary in a way that it's integrated into a necklace attachment. They are also way too big for my ears but it is quite difficult to find earphones with a straight audio jack instead of an angle one.
I would recommend this player to anyone who doesn't like to carry a brick sized player and/or for light use.
