The player includes a voice recorder and an FM tuner/recorder, which records 179Kbps WAV files. You can adjust the quality for voice recordings but not for FM recordings. Plus, at this price point, you can find players that also include line-in recording and even FM transmission.
One sign of intelligence is the inclusion of a pair of over-the-ear headphones, which provide a fuller, richer sound than the earbuds that come with most players. Though not marketed as a "sports" player, the MP35V ships with an exercise-friendly armband.
The SV-MP35V's sound quality was one of the few areas where we have no complaints. Music of all genres sounded clear and hiss-free, and the player's bass and treble responses were decent, if not superb. As for transfer speed, the device averaged 0.5MB per second, which is average for a USB 1.1 connection. The player averaged 9.9 hours of playback on a single AAA battery, in line with the company's rating of 10 hours.
One glitch that's strange for a flash-based player: The Panasonic e-wear SV-MP35V takes a few seconds to switch between modes. In particular, moving from the FM radio to the player often required more than 5 seconds for the device to regroup. Though this wouldn't seem out of place on a hard drive-based device, it's simply another off-putting aspect of this flash player.
