I have to clear something up first.
Reason i bought this little nifty gadget is the good FM-Radio. Not for the Gb's of space or anything.
I had read some Dutch reviews and this device turned up as not only a good sounding Mp3-player but also a good sounding FM-radio.
Starting a diet to reduce fat and sporting again, my iPod Touch and HTC Desire are simply to big to carry around.
IPod Touch 2nd has no FM Radio without a Wifi-signal an the sound quality of the HTC phone is not nearly as good as the Philips and has no EQ-settings to choose from. And it?s also very huge, wich is nice somtimes but not for sporting.
The GoGear Ariaz fits in my pockets of my sporting clothes without bouncing and sticking out.
And what a sound! BUT; as all DAP- devices the firmware is restricting the maximum volume, Philips has done it also. From a legal point of view it is very understandable but customers find it very irritating.
I want to wear different headphones than the original ones, so its way to soft. It gets a little better with a soundsetting called "FullSound" but thats it.
Now, I?ve previously owned a Creative Zen Vision M for a while and it had the same problem.
This was temporary solved trough choosing an older firmware version from the US instead of the Eropean one.
Much better, even loud! Phillips, happily, has done us a favor by increasing the "FullSound" in firmware 2.63. (june 2010)
Originally it?s in the box in the EU with Firmware 2.55. The result is a more powerfull sound but with my Sennheiser PX100 it sounds like its half the volume.
My solution here: a Fiio E5 Headphone amplifier. Bought one on Ebay.
Haven't tested it yet but from what i heared it will improve both volume and body of my music and overall sound, naturally i am going to use it for my iPod Touch as well. Because jailbreaking did not solve anything in the sound-departement of my iPod.
By the way, my fat is flying away thanks to my new Philips GoGear Ariaz. :-)
