"Looks good and sturdy, but..." on by GoNsnow
Pros: Expandable memory, well protected; built for those "on-the-go!"
Cons: Software/Firmware isn't the best, neither are the earbuds..
Summary: This is a solid looking & feeling MP3 player that has a stretchy, rubberized housing that works with a velcro-stretch armband that stretches over the player. The body is a torpedo-like shape made of a rubberized material mated to plastic. The earbuds are very uncomfortable and don't fit well, but when used with other headsets and earbuds the sound is extremely good. It was purchased with the intention of being exposed to hard knocks and has yet to disapoint in that regard. Great for jogging and exercise. The software/firmware is a hassle and depends on MS Windows Media Player to upload. I have yet to figure out how to get my playlists to come up after download; in other words, either the firmware needs to be upgraded or the instructions are not clear or a combination of both. The radio has excellent reception and is easily tuned. I have not yet used the inline or built in microphone recording features.

"looks neat, too bad its buggy" on by leatonr
Pros: small, uses AAA battery
Cons: download songs to player is nearly impossible
Summary: this player's design is pretty poor, the buttons have poor feedback, the FW is buggy, downloading songs froze my computer and now the player won't turn on. Philips replaced my original player, but it took 1 month to get my new one. I've had better luck with Creative, Samsung, and SanDisk

"Don't buy it." on by battsea
Pros: Looks cool--aesthetics are great.
Cons: Doesn't work.
Summary: I had an experience similar to one of the previous reviewers. I was very excited about the player but couldn't get it to turn on. I tried everything from multiple battery changes to visiting the Philips website for support. Everything else was great--the software loaded perfectly and I seemed to be able to load/remove music from the player. However, since I couldn't get it to turn on, I returned the player. I purchased the player at a Wal-mart as well. I ended up with a Samsung that works great.

"this item never worked" on by jeff yeomans
Pros: looks nice pretty case
Cons: doesnt work
Summary: my 10 yr old son purchased an sa261 from walmart whilst on vacation in florida. when we returned home to united kingdom, we found the product to be faulty, tried contacting philips who only guided me through the firmware download procedure, which i had already done. but boys being boys my son had discarded the receipt, and as he paid by cash not walmart or philips would offer any help. i even offered philips to pay for the repair but to no avail. so i am left with a $130.00 paper weight. but its a good looking paper weight.
