"freakin piece" on by mrvegiboy
Pros: compact size, 40 dollar price tag
Cons: comes with no software. windows media player n realplayer won't get it to sync properly
Summary: what a freakin nightmare. if you don't listen to music but love audiobooks this worthless piece will having you crying in the fetal position in no time. since it comes with no software you have to use 3rd party software like windows media player n realplayer. a lot of times when you drag and drop files to sync it renames them in some bewildering, inexplicable way. you can even go through and rename all files 01, 02, 03 and it still won't line them up right. so you're trying to listen to your audiobook and the files are all out of order. a lot of books are basically rendered unlistenable on this thing based on this. i'm seriously consdering taking a step backwards and just buying an MP3 cd player since it takes about 5 seconds to get the files to line up correctly on that and burn it out. Either that or I am going to have to see if the IPOD/ITUNES combo actually let you, as a last resort, name and sort files manually instead of, like windows media player n realplayer, be like "Ah nope, i've decided that your files go in this order and if you don't like it YOU CAN JUST GO EAT SH*T!!!!!!!" F*cking Piece of sh*t, MP3 player. You'd think for the money in this market, philips could have spent $20 to pay some computer science college freshman to write a visual basic app that would have let you sync your files to their piece of sh*t device any way you wanted. Don't buy this thing. It's not worth a nickel

"There are better options" on by 9dosus
Pros: Easy to use, looks nice enough
Cons: Freezes up moving through songs
Summary: This player works well enough, looks nice, and is very easy to use. Unfortunately, it suffers from frequent and irritating disfunctions.
When trying to change songs or fast-forward through a song, the player freezes up. When you're lucky, it just plain freezes. When you're not lucky (which is most of the time) it freezes while simultaneously delivering a deafening, high-pitched whine right into your eardrums.
This problem seems to be linked to the speed at which you skip songs or fast-forward. The method I've had to work out is this: skip a song, wait two seconds, skip again. Skip any faster than this and it freezes about half the time. Fast-forwarding through a song, it freezes nine times out of ten. And when it freezes, there's nothing to do but open the cover and pop out the battery to reset it.
If you've got plenty of patience, or no desire to skip songs ever, this will be fine. Otherwise, you're better served getting something like a Sansa, which I've found to be incredibly reliable (and less expensive).
