"High quality and excellent value" on by BloodHolds

    Pros: Excellent sound quality
    Impresive video playback
    Atractive styling
    Good feature list

    Cons: Too few codecs supported

Summary: The Philips SA6185 is a very nicely finished piece of equipment. The back is black brushed aluminium (which ever so slightly concave, much like a hip flask), the front has a piano black finish ? giving it a contemporary look.

The 8GB (7.5GB in reality) of flash is adequate, allowing you to store about 50hrs of Video. The Video replay is quite impressive and actually provides quite an immersive experience.

What really sets this player apart though is the sound quality. When used with a decent pair of in-ear headphones (like the Sennheiser CX300 for £17), you can hear that the amplification stage of this device is of the finest quality. It has the presence of a class A amplifier, with impressive sound-staging and timing. This is one very musical machine.

I personally prefer the feature list of this to that of the iPod touch. The FM radio, speakers and Dictaphone - is preferable to the iPod?s touch screen (which you will need to constantly remove fingerprints from).

All in all this is a very solid offering, just be aware that you should only buy a machine that has the latest firmware installed (1.0.7). I have had many problems with machines shipped with an earlier version of the firmware.

One final thought, the equaliser in the SA6185 is very good - it would be nice if it offered the option to allow the machine to automatically set the equaliser to the appropriate setting for the genre of music being played.

"Philips GoGear SA6185 is a nice audio and video player." on by t85

    Pros: -Nice screen size
    -Sound Quality Is Excellent
    -Good Video Playback
    -Easy navigation

    Cons: -Not enough codecs supported
-Media Converter software is slow at converting files
-Media Converter won't save files to player

Summary: I like this audio and video player for a various reasons. The sound quality is excellent. I have the choice of listening... with the headphones or without them. I like the fact this player has a 3.5 inch screen, which is a great screen size for viewing pictures and videos. I love the ease of navigating from one section to another section on the player.

The video playback is good but could be better. Certain parts of the videos are not as clear as they should be. This may have something to do with the media converter changing the format of the file.

The media converter software that comes with this player doesn't work like it should. This software is set up to convert the files and save them to the player. However, after converting my files, it doesn't save them to the player. I always get a "failed to save..." message. Instead, I have to click and drag the video files to the player.

Overall, I think the player is a good audio and video player. I would recommend this device.
