"Good choice for this price."4.0 starson by SurekDesign
Pros: Playback time with one charge is convincing. Sound Quality with FullSound on is great.
Equalizer is great and Smart Shuffle lists are really smart.
8GB for this price is great. FM recieving and recording quality is amazing.
Cons: There is no Linux or Mac version of the Philips Songbird software. The Win version is buggy. Can't add playlists easily. Editing playlists on the device is hard and slow.
Summary: First of all it's a responsible, rock-solid player and good partner in traveling, sport and so on. The Full Sound technology making this a must-have.
I just love the design of this player, especially the metal housing, and the ergonomic interface. It really fits into the palm of your hand.
The equalizer custom setup is working real time so you can play with the setup while listening to the result.
The album art background is working also for Folder.jpg-s and for "in-file" images.
Video playback is enjoyable and the player saves the position for each movie when quitting.
Radio RDS and receiving quality is amazing, the recordings could be 4h long and you can even pause recording for a while (to skip ads and so on).
Voice recording could be also 4h long, and the quality is acceptable.
Good design, 8GB and nearly full feature list of an iPod nano for a price of an iPod Shuffle 2GB!
Just a few cons:
The PHILIPS Songbird could be better. For example adding new playlist feature is a bit buggy with this player. I hope a software update will solve this. There are issues also if you want to convert videos for your player. But I believe that an FFMPEG GUI program will do the trick for you.
(There are just a few irrelevant annoying things about this product. And these are annoying just for people who wants to change every factory setting and wants to get the most from any IT product. There are some possibilities in this hardware and in the software architecture witch have been not exploited by the designers.
For example there are no way to play a regular MP3 or other format then an Audible AA as an audiobook. So if you have long mp3 tracks with speech, you just can't bookmark them. Only AA format is supported for this feature. And you can't save or convert your own audio in AA format because it's closed. But fortunately between a power off and -on the player saves the playback position for any track.
You can't off battery charging while connected to a USB port. When experimenting with file formats and/or using the player as a drive you have to plug in-out the USB many times a day. This is not so good for a LiPolymer battery.)
