"Best 256mb (up to 2.256 GB!) flash player"
Pros: Expandable memory, VERY VERY durable, great EQ, belt clip, RMM, Rio stick nav., Rio Taxi
Cons: Power usage is a bit hoggish with a 2 gig SD card
Summary: Well, to start out, I've owned this work of functional art for over 1 and a half years now, with no problems that weren't self inflicted (see below) It's great on sound quality, has an awesome 5 band EQ, has very expandable memory, up to 2 gigs with an SD card, and is very durable. I guess I'll tell my little story now. Well, me and my friends were horsing around and one started throwing rocks at me (he isn't a friend anymore) and the poor Chiba fell out of my pocket. Well, it turns out my so called friend had some anger management problems and decided retribution would be best served on my poor poor Chiba. Well anyways, he stomped on it and the screen cracked, but the sly dog was tricking him, it didn't really break, it still played music, the screen just didn't work. So in retrospect I had a future iPod Shuffle. Anyways, a mp3 that can take that kind of abuse could probably take any other abuse. The designers of the Chiba are sly also, they gave us a "belt clip" with it, but it really is a piece of hard back plastic with a 20 piece of insurance (really metal) on the back. You simply wrap your wires around it and if it falls it won't hit the ground (thats saved me 3 times and counting) RMM (Rio Music Manager) comes with it and is probably the best music (just music) player-manager ever. Its simple, yet functional. The rio stick (the red dot on the picture) is a breeze to use, but is a little cumbersome with a large collection. (get the rio carbon for your 2500-3000 song needs) Lastly the Rio Taxi program allows you to use your compatible rio mp3 as a jump drive, saving you money on CD's and floppies.
I only have two complaints, one as i mentioned before, the power usage is a little hoggish with an sd card equipped, but tthe sly designers got you again, there is full support for NiMH rechargable batteries (which will save you hundreds on anything with batteries, so that ends up ok. The bad thing is, is that you have to use playlists to seperate albums. Over all this is a great mp3.
