Pros waterproof, good armband and clip, easy to use controls
Cons you have to add memory, not shock-proof
Summary I used this player for running for about two years. I added a 256 MB SD expansion card.
It handled sun, rain, and sweat well, and did fine with normal bangs and bumps. I found it easy to use and comfortable, with decent sound quality (from what I can tell while running). It never fell out of its case, and it only came unclipped once.
However, the one time I dropped it, it fell apart and would not fit back together again, like it was warped. Very sad. Also, the FM radio wasn't good, and it won't tune to the even-numbered stations that they use inside my gym.
I'll be looking for something similar in my next player... sturdy, light, skip-proof, and waterproof. I may even get the next-gen Rio.
Pros Good sound quality, memory upgradable and easy to use.
Cons Software awkward; Radio quality so-so; Musicmatch plugin doesn't work correctly.
Summary Had it for 2 years and never a problem.
Upgraded memory so it holds about 90 songs
@ 160 or better. Use it in the gym, running, and cycling. Let a kid see it who took it out of the clip case and threw it; it came apart at the seam but snapped back together and works fine. Software could be improved; dropdown menus a pain. Will buy another with larger capacity to store everything when they get the software issue worked out.
Pros good design, simple to use, very compact, good mp3 player for the price, good alternative to the Ipod shuffle (it actually has a sreen)
Cons external memory is a must (not more then 512 mb card because the song selection menu is not the best designed one) no remote,
Summary i really think that this mp3 player is a good choice for people who are looking to get a decent mp3 player but who dont want to sepend alot of money (i paid about $90 for the mp3 player and a 512mb sd card) i think that this is a verry much better option then the Ipod shuffle because this actually has a screen and it hac a crude menu to find the song you want.
Pros Portability, expandable good value
Cons FM radio has poor reception
Summary I have had this player for more than 2 years, and I really like it. I take it out walking and jogging, and like that it is small enough to fit in my pocket and not fall out.Easy to use controls and sound can be customized. The radio isnt really worth it, unless you happen to get a strong signal that stays. You can add SD cards to expand its storage. Battery life could be better.
I still use this player, even though I just bought a ipod mini for using at work and in the car, because i wanted longer battery life and large storage. But still, you cant go wrong with the S30S,especially for a starter into the MP3 world. It is sturdy enough for kids, and you cant beat the price.
Give it a try.
Cons Miserable warranty (90 days), prone to dreaded "upgrader" error which will cost you $100 to fix and you get back someone else's used Rio.
