"Much better value than I was initially anticipated"5.0 starson by Skyhawk007
Pros: Loaded with built-in features, along with great Android apps which enhance it's abilities. 3.2 mp Camera with Flash, FM Radio (with RDS ability from Android app), Nice screen, ability to play all music files, watching movies, GPS, WiFi.
Cons: Battery life is not as good as I was hoping for. I am only getting about 4 hours of battery life in all.
With a Li-Ion battery like this, I should be getting no less than 10+ hours or so of battery life. Samsung should look into and get it fixed.
Summary: As I said in a previous post, I originally was greatly disappointed with this device initially after owning it for a couple of days, but now I see that this Galaxy Player device has really wowed me with what it can do, despite the bad and WORST advice from BEST BUY and Samsung's HORRIBLE and completely inept/incompetent Customer Service people.
Despite both their bad advice and info, I was able to get great apps from the Android marketplace that enabled my Galaxy Player device to be far better than I ever would have hoped that it would be- especially the FM radio that now has app-enabled RDS functions to make the FM radio even better!
I would HIGHLY recommend people installing the FM RDS app if they are wanting that feature to go along with their FM radio. It's a great app. Also, I recommend installing the JetAudio music player app, because it will enhance the audio quality of their MP3's and MP4's, along with enabling other features for those of us with bad hearing in one of their ears, like me. It's one of the best apps in the Android marketplace, and the best for music lovers.
With all the Android apps that help make the built-in features that much better, this is a great device to own, and is a far better device than the terribly mediocre ratings that CNET gives it. It is far better than the over-rated Apple Ipod, and for it's size, abilities and features, it's the best non-tablet media device on the market today.
As good as this Galaxy Player 5 device is, it can be better with a better battery, a much better and higher resolution camera (the pictures it takes are mediocre at best), enhancing this device with at least a dual-core CPU, and ICS, if possible.
I really hope that Samsung comes out with these enhancements in the new Galaxy Player 6 device by Christmas, if this is their plan to do so.
