"Nice feature list; some flaws in implementation" on by wfried
Pros: Decent UI, Excellent Features, Solid Form Factor
Cons: Slow Startup time and Synch, Disappointing Screen, Some Bugs
Summary: I have had my player for 2-3 days; overall happy with it, but some annoyances; for example:
- Each time you turn it on it takes several seconds to 'boot'
- The quality of the color pictures is pretty poor
- It took me about 2 hours to synch about 600 songs over USB 2.0. This is my first player; so maybe that is normal but I expected faster. I wish there was a firewire connector.
- In the playlist, the genre of songs that are encoded as MP3 appear as numbers like '3' instead of the correct name like 'rap' (I have a mix of WMA and MP3 songs).
- You cannot synch to the same device from different Windows accounts on the same computer.
- The battery life could be better.
However, overall it does what I bought it for, which is to play my music on the go and displays color pictures. If anyone has advice about the synch speed I would appreciate it.Updated
I have now had the product for a few months. I am even more disappointed with it. The biggest problem is the power management. Once you charge it and unplug it from the PC, it turns itself ON after a "boot" of 10-15 seconds. I have inadvertantly ended up with a fully depleted battery a few times as a result. Also, the battery just went dead when I was running. Now the thing is hosed; I need to reload the firmware apparently and re-synch everything. I would definitely recommend against this device unless Samsung releases a major upgrade for the firmware.Updated
Samsung has finally released a firmware upgrade for this player, and it fixes most of the major problems I highlighted above. The power management now works as you would expect. Also, because this release fully supports Windows Media Player, it's easy to set up automatic synching of your podcasts and playlists.
The booting is faster, the synching is faster, and the MP3 genre bug is fixed.
This player works pretty darn well now. I would still like to see a dedicated hardware volume control, and the ability to rate songs on the device, but aside from that I have no complaints.
The built-in voice recorder is an added bonus which I have started to take advantage of.Updated

You can set it up, for example, so that any song you rate as 4 stars or higher is automatically synched when you connect the player to your PC.

"totally waste of money, cheaters samsung" on by anacris
Pros: its small, in fact i bought it because a saw it small, you can also keep photos, and in color.
Cons: need of napster!!!
Summary: i'm from mexico and i saw the yh-820 in an electronic shop in texas and i fell in love with it, but then i tried for hours trying to tranfer music but it didnt appear the songs in my mp3, so i keep reading and i found out that YOU NEED NAPSTER and in mexico napster isn't available . the problem is that i cant return it because im back in mexico and i cant go back soon. and the warranty is only like 14 days.. so i spent 250 buying something that i wont use, it can only be used to storage things but is a TOTALLY WASTE OF MONEY and samsung doesnt specify in the box or in the web page, after 2 days seraching how to transfer o found out and im totally dissapointed, its way much better the ipod beacuse its easier to use and not all that sh*t that samsung put in the yh-820
Updated

"Extremely Disappointed" on by alibaba0101
Pros: Nice and compact size
Cons: Where do I start!
Summary: Even though the unit shows up as an external hard disk you can only use the proprietary software that comes with the samsung to load pictures and mp3. Any songs or pictures that you transfer to the unit without the samsung software will not be accessible!
It only comes with a proprietary cable instead of a usb mini cable so don't forget your cable at home or lose it. Will not charge from usb and only when directly connected to the power outlet. The interface is very cluggy. There is no power off/on button. Apparently the play button is used for everything including play/pause/poweron/poweroff. It takes a long time to startup or shutdown to the point you wonder if it's working right. The menus are exteremly limited. I could not find any options to shuffle or repeat songs?! Skipping forward songs is extremly slow and can only be done once the next song has already started playing. The muvo was a lot better. -

Pros: Size and real buttons
Cons: Slow internal software, not Napster to Go compatible
Summary: Bought this player about a month ago. It has not given me any problems and I have been generally happy. The only two gripes are that it has a lag time when you press a button and that it is not Napster to go compatible, which it could be if Samsung would just release a firmware upgrade. The color screen is small but nice and the controls are easy once you get used to it. Overall, i would say for the price and size it is worth the money but if you can spend more and don't mind bigger there are some better options out there.

"Overall I would say buy it!!" on by superman17
Pros: Support for MP3/WMA and Voice Recording, and also IMAGES!!
Cons: Slow startup/shutdown.
Summary: I would say buy this product. I am very happy with it and am not disappointed at my choice at all.. for the price it is very good cheaper than an ipod photo and also very simple to use. The only difference is hard drive size but for someone who doesnt need 5000 songs on a device it is great.
