  • "Great Unit when it works!!"
    on by Luna24823

Pros Storage capacity, bright easy to read screen

Cons Low battery life, no FM tuner

Summary I purchased this unit for my wife less than a year ago and she was very satisfied with it, until it had a not initialization of HDD error. Tried to find information to recover but there's none. Called Samsung and they offer to refund me for the player, it's been over 3 weeks and I have not received the package for me to send them the unit back to claim my refund. I give the player a 6 and Samsung for their service a BIG ZERO...

  • "Fabulous, when it works"
    on by nutters

Pros Good audio quality, easy navigation

Cons Long boot, horrible firmware and software

Summary I purchased this because it was cheaper than the iPod Photo but I have regretted it so far. After upgrading the firmware to the Janus 5.0 version it ceased to boot and wouldn't connect to a computer. I called tech support and they found that problem quite common. Why then, wouldn't you remove the firmware update from your website? So I had to pay $10 to ship it to Rhode Island, fine. Over a month goes by and I start to wonder. I call them, and after being on the phone for half an hour, I find they don't know, but it was received by them. They forward my call to the manager. They say they'll find the status of it. It comes back in another week, with another firmware version. I upload my library to it, and things work for like 2 weeks, until I try to update my library. The player says it's connected but it's not recognized by Windows Media Player, which I use instead of the horrible Napster. I somehow get it to connect and delete my entire library because there were several hundred duplicate songs (thank you iTunes) then I restart it to reload my library and it gets 100 songs on and freezes. It won't connect to anything so i call them, after a long wait I finally talk to someone and he says they'll arrange an exchange and call back with more information. So I'm waiting to see how that turns out.

I have one of these "mp3 players" at least they say it plays mp3s. I don't know, due to horrible firmware that conflicks with everthing mine no longer boots or connects to a computer. This would be at least the third time I had to send it in but i pushed and got a refund. The tech support man also said they were giving refunds for faulty hard drives and a disruption in their supply of new ones to replace them. When I get my $300 I paid for it, I'm getting a Creative Zen Vision M.

  • "Kicks ass, absolutely better than i POD"
    on by prashants17

Pros versatile, value for money. 20GB

    Cons learning curve

Summary Very nice mp3 player, some do get trouble installing the cd, but you don't need to on XP, just drag and drop your playlist from windows media player, and all goes smoothly. Iam satisfied with the sound quality which some find bad, holds all types of DATA files, but only holds you have to connect to a computer to read them, over all a excellent value for money.

  • "Poor battery performance hinders this player"
    on by Cookiedude27

Pros Great screen, intuitive controls, photos can be uploaded directly from a cameras, charges rapidly.

Cons Poor battery life, sound is sometimes awful, others merely okay.

Summary I've bought a YH-925GS to replace my dying YH-820, I liked it for the ability to transfer my images directly on it without any additional equipment, but as an mp3 player, it has many shortcomings, like short battery life and crappy sound. But if you like the design and the features of it, hold on until this winter, when Samsung promises to unleash the "iPod Killer" ; they've taken into accounts every complaints made on their 2005 line, and there was a few, we're talking about better battery life, better screen, better sound, an even easier interface, batter sound, and more support as well as more accessories (like portable speakers and such.)

  • "Looks better than an Ipod"
    on by owenrover

Pros Great storage capacity, FM Radio (on European versions), OK colour screen and photo album

Cons Samsung must be one of the worst companies for after sales support, Takes 3 minutes to boot up if you use more than 70 per cent of drive for Mp3's, Crashes on playing over 30 min Mp3's (concept albu)

    Summary Hi

I would like to warn everyone like me who is drawn by this player's first impression. I admit it looks good and has nice features but until Samsung sort out their support I would not recommend it to anyone, The battery lasts 5 hours playback if the screen is off and 3 hours if you spend too much time selecting tracks or accessing the pic album. The sound quality is good until you compare the same track on your friend's Iriver and then you realise how bad it is. The EQ is not programmable and once its on the sound quality deteriorates making it sound like a tape cassette walkman. The Fm radio and recording capabilities are great but beware do not upgrade the firmware until they issue an MTP + radio firmware because you will end up like me with no access to the radio, firmware corruptions everytime you use it as a USB drive and ringing everyday Samsung customer services only to be told that they know they are having issues and that someone will call u back which never happens.

I would rather have paid twice as much and got something that at least does what its advertised to do.
