"dumped XM for this bad boy" on by icvos
Pros: personalized, customized music, niche stations, artist-based stations, no annoying DJs, wifi, fav or ban songs/artists. take it wherver u go. online player.
Cons: I use it mostly in my car so i have one MAJOR issue. Album art takes up whole screen, artist and song tittle are in microscopic text @ the bottom so i cant glance over and see it!
Summary: despite small text, i have found the best of all worlds here. in fact, dropped XM after 5 years. hope to see a car version with larger easy to read text at some point.

"Good Player Had WiFi Issues" on by freddfbear
Pros: Customizable stations-up to 40 W/premium service, 10 if using free service. Nice size, controls, decent battery, website is pretty cool.
Cons: Impossible to see screen in bright sunlight,EQ does not help much with quality. I had difficulty setting up wi-fi settings with Vista, slow to download music, sluggish to connect wi-fi, can only download library with premium service..
Summary: You cannot download from your library to the hard drive of the player without premium service. Free service throws a few ads at you from time to time, but skipping ahead a song can only be done 6 times, again, they try to get you into the premium service. You cannot save music to hard drive without paying for premium service. If they work out the issues it might be a nice little player. If you are tech saavy, and don't mind dealing with nagging setup issues, and slow download speeds, you might like it.

"Internet radio on the good with easy music discover" on
Pros: Easy music discovery based on custom station and selecting favorite songs
Deeper music library than Pandora
The ability to store 100+ songs per channel
Small form factor makes it easy to transport and to use during work outsCons: 802.11g wireless range is poor
The user interface does take a little time to get use to.
Scroll wheel is not very firm which can led to scrolling while clicking
No Windows Vista x64 Driver Support
No Mac DriversSummary: Overall this is one of the best product ideas I have come across for internet radio and music discovery. The battery life is outstanding the form factor is better than the first generation and the price is reasonable seeing that you are getting the music for free. The wireless range is poor and there are no x64 drivers for this product.
However, these short fall or small in comparison to what you get with respect to music offerings. -
"Great Concept horrible software" on by seamusriley
Pros: Does play a variety of music
Cons: Bad Software
Had to reset several times
Horrible customer serviceSummary: I purchased mine through slacker web site. It lasted 32 day just long enough not to get my money back. The concept is great, it does play a variety of music, but as others have complained about, not all artest will play on the portable. I had to reset the player several times so the stations could save. After 32 days, the player stopped working. The only way to contact slacker cs is by email or by live chat with limited times. I returned the unit, and they did send one back, but the unit they sent back was also defective and never worked. So cs stated they would send a returned label by the next day and they will test the unit, why they never tested the replacement is a wonder to me. The next day, no email. So here I sit with a defective unit and loss of my money. Buy something else!!!!!

"Great device for music discovery. Convenient and fun." on by highendguy
Pros: Wifi refresh is cool. Music discovery is priceless. Screen is sharp and bright. Artist and album bios are cool. Player sounds great. Charge lasts a whole shift at work. Can connect to a portable speaker system. Stations are great. Custom stations.
Cons: Player has occasional glithches that require a factory reset. It hasn't happened in a whlle though.
Summary: I love my Slacker G2 and couldn't do without it now. I've had it for about 9 months and I'm totally addicted to it. I use it primarily at work or in the car. When I'm home I use the software player on my computer. In fact, it was the software player that first go me hooked on the Slacker service. I don't have a lot of time to go out and buy music. Buying music gets expensive. I don't watch MTV or listen to the radio. Slacker is pretty much my only source for new music. Mudic discovery with the Slacker G2 has been a priceless asset of the service.
I am mobile on my job and have to move around a lot. The G2 is slim and small and fits nicely in my pocket. or clipped on to my belt with the provided soft cushiony case.
Once you learn the control functions, you don't need to even look at the player to control functions. The player has excellent sound and the supplied ear buds sound great. I recently bought a nice portable headphone amp that I plug the Slacker into and it has greatly amplified and improved the sound. Not that the player itself doesn't sound good, because it does. I'm kind of a gadget nerd and audiophile so, I am always trying to improve the sound of my playback devices.
I do have the premium service so, I don't have to puut up with the occasional commercials and I can skip songs as often as I like, which really isn't that often. The player has the ability to learn your musical taste in time, whcih is really cool.
I do wish that the Slacker online player would sponser some live concerts or have more features too interact with. Maybe in time they will.
I highly recommend Slacker for music lovers like me that don't have the time to download individual songs to an MP3 player. Millions of songs and over 100 stations to choose from. You can even custom creat your own stations, which I have and it's awesome. If you buy one of these Slacker G2 players, you will have a blast.
