Pros the size is right for all day listening, the sound is great, and the physical layout couldn't be more intuitive. I just bought this player to replace a creative zen that keeps locking up, and am very pleased with the result.
Cons the screen is really too small to watch videos, something that the zen did well.
Summary because my creative zen 8gb keeps locking up, I decided to look for a replacement. My budget is limited, so my choices were, also. A friend of mine had a sony stick style mp3 player, and recommended that I look at the current crop of players. I'm glad I did. After opening the blister box. I was impressed with how small and light the player is. Since the instsallation software was installed on the player, I connected it to my pc and installed all the software. The interface is very simple to navigate, and I had no trouble putting music, photos, and videos on the player. The only gripe that I have is the screen size. It's really too small. That being said, the music playback is, in every way, superior to the zen. The volume goes higher, the quality is crystal clear, and the volume rocker is very sensitive, so you can find the ideal volume for a given piece of music,
Pros Great sound and friendly interface at a damn good price.
Cons Poor radio reception, completely lacking podcast support and questionable standard issue earbuds.
Summary This little thing is glorious. I hadn't really done any in-depth research on the Sony when I purchased it; staring down the iPods and SanDisks at BestBuy, the little red Sony jumped out at me with what looked like a good balance of price and function.
I'm glad I took the chance. While not as flashy as the Nano, the Walkman has absolutely everything I had hoped for in a player. There's no opportunity for memory expansion, but 8G is way more than I need for the time being, and the sound quality is absolutely ace.
What I really dig is the interface. It's a pretty standard design, but it's intuitive and takes no thought at all. No fighting with a scroll wheel or fumbling with unresponsive buttons. The menu is super classy and easy to use, albeit a bit dull, but the player itself is shiny enough to make up for this particular shortcoming.
It's light, durable and the battery life is great. I know it's a marked reduction from the first of this line, but the thirty hour playback estimation is no joke. Getting music on and off is simple; even the software is friendly.
My one gripe comes in the FM radio. Most of the stations I get come in so weakly and with so much static that I'm not sure it's worth having the function at all. The earbuds, of course, are uncomfortable, unreliable and produce mediocre sound, but I swapped mine out with a new pair of Skullcandies and couldn't be happier.
It's a great player. For what you get, the price is an absolute steal. I'm glad I lucked into something reliable.
Pros Easy to load music from either CDs or downloads. Accepts iTunes, Windows Media Player and most other products. Great sound quality is superb.
The battery life seems to last forever. My old iPod Nano wouldn't even last 8 hours. The Sony is good for 3-4
Cons The software to load the users guide from the unit is a little "clunky." Wish Sony had the guide loaded on their web site for access if not loaded from the Walkman.
Summary Worth every penny. Will definitely purchase another. No more iPods for me.
Pros As a travler the needing 1 USB cable for all my toys is important. Connect it to my TV, control it with the remote to listen to music or watch movies on the TV, that is smart thinking. I traded my daughter my Ipod for her new Sony Walkman.
Cons Hard to find a case to protect the Sony and screen, it takes a beeting in the breaf case.
Summary Bang for the buck if you have a sony TV with USB port and/or like to travel lite this is something you can enjoy.
