Pros small size, style, quality, ease of use, variety of colors

Cons not enough accessories, mediocre software, not enough product awareness

Summary Earlier this year I was given an iPod for my birthday and after 3 returns to the manufacturer for product defect repairs I quickly threw it in the garbage and moved on. I saw the new offering from Sony and was very excited to see Sony finally step up to the plate with an amazing and seriously underrated player. SMALLER THAN THE IPOD and much more stylish, very simple design and interface make this player a pleasure to use. Its very fast scrolling through menus, just as fast as the silly click wheel iPod sheep rave so much about. As for the SonicStage software, I have had no problems with it, in fact I think its pretty good, but could use some improvement, mainly in the menu control options. But for the most part it does the job and you can choose from a variety of bit rates (Atrac3plus to automatic mp3 transfer). This gives you the opportunity to keep disc space down so you can store a lot more than 20gb (-2gb for OS, so 18gb actual memory true of all players). So before you step onto the consumer conveyor belt and follow everyone else without making informed decisions, Look at other products like Sony, iRiver, Creative and you will see there are a lot of new products superior to the mainstream heavyweights. McDonalds is the largest food chain in the world, but that doesnt make their food the best, the same applies to Apple iPods.

Pros Battery Life Black Backround Eq Sound Quality Navigation Fast Downloading

Cons The Flap on the top is flimsy. No Big. Navigation slow for 10,00 songs

Summary This is the True Ipod Killer. I have had a Rio Carbon, Creative Touch(20gig), Mpio, Ipod Mini, and a Rio nitrus You name it. This is yet thee best mp3 player out there right next to the Creative Zen (4-6gig) This thing has a removable battery and 90$ for replacemets. It has great battery life. About 25 hrs. Great Navigation for 1000 songs. Superb sound quality. Custom Eq settngs(temble and Bass) The Screen can be inverted to back or white backounds. Volume buttons are on the player. It is as big as the IPOD MINI. The only thing bad about it is if you have a full 20 gig of music im guessing it will take a while to get to the middle or bottom. The flap on the top that flips for the usb and ac is flimsy and will probable break off. If you have any questions concerning any mp3 player contace me at musicmanx517@yahoo.com. I have tried every mp3 player out there and done research for the whole summer o find the perfect player and this is thee best. Better than the Ipod nano.

Pros Long battery play time, quick charge time on USB2 or AC, Sonicstage easier to use than reviews led me to believe and I'm not PC geek

Cons The little plastic port cover on the USB port seems a little flimsy, no FM

Summary This player has great sound. I use it with a pair of Sony ear buds that have a built in volume booster - $65 and worth the extra cost. I play this thing in my old dodge truck and the sound is fantastic - also listen walking to and from work and at work.

Using sonic stage was intuitive, easy quick start instructions had me loading music first try. I was worried reading reviews that I would not be able to master this but it was not hard at all. I've presently got 30+ CDs transferred over - am happy with the search function by artist and album. It is quick and easy. The hold button has saved battery life.

The unit froze up when I was at work yesterday - I thought oh no, but a quick call to SONY assisted me in removing the battery for 30 seconds to reset the unit functions. So keep that trick in mind if your functions ever freeze up.

The real reason I purchased this model was the battery life and the fact that I can remove it and replace it with another if needed. For trips overseas I expect to carry a couple of fully charged batteries. A great feature. If you want an easy to use player that gets great sound that will run for days on a single charge this one is for you. I'm not one for lots of bells and whistles so this one is for me.

Pros Simple Simple Simple to use. battery life, SMALL

Cons slightly smaller screen (then an ipod) sonicstage (but 3.1 is actully much better)

Summary Wow i have had both and ipod and just recently bought the nw-hd5 and it looks great. It may not look that great online but it is really small and sleek. The batterylife is very close to the advertised 40 hours (35) in my experence. The main thing about this player is it has almost no learning curve. PIcked it up and started lisining

Pros Superb Quality Hardware, Eye-catching Design

    Cons Botton Click Sound

Summary The design is more traditional. First time I see it, I feel a bit disappointed because it has the appearance of iPods and other brands. Then I think that is not the unique design of iPod, that is the popular design of handheld devices in general. Many mobile phones, even remote controls, have that design. Don't be ashame if your car has 4 wheels like others. The aluminum look makes the Sony HD5 cooler and more elegant. Small shape makes you feel better when holding it in your hand. Surprisingly, the bright OLED screen can change its position. Battery life is a clear advantage over other brands. With removable battery, I never worry about power problem when I am away. New set of buttons is more convenient and smooth. The sound quality is one of the best players available. What have I to say? Sony should launch the next generation of this device asap.
