"Poor at best, I wish i had bought an IPOD" on by godopolis
Pros: They look good for the first 10 mins of owning it...
Cons: For starters, you can't see it in the light....
Summary: I bought this thinking, stuff apple, sony have something here....WRONG. this MP3 player is the most poorly designed item i have seen yet. YOU CAN'T SEE THE SCREEN IN THE LIGHT, so unless your a zombie its already rather useless. then there is the tacky plasticy back it has not great...to make it worse though, and this really annoys me, dust gets inbetween the buttons and is then visible between the layers of plastic, which makes it look awful. now the software...its awful, not thought through at all, its unpredictable as to whether your music will actually be uploaded or not, and when uploaded doesn't go in track order, this means that its impossible to listen so a audio book. the interface on both the player and any computer is sloooww, and if you don't have acsess to the internet is unavailble. if you have two computers, then the software won't let you take music from both, or sinc on both!
Now my pet peave IT DOESN'T SELECT THE RIGHT MUSIC, my player selects the album below the one i have asked it to select!!

"absolute quality" on by fustymccrank
Pros: Sounds superb, looks great
Cons: Battery Life
Summary: First off, maybe its just me but I found the software easy to use, and personally better than I-tunes, its totally intuitive and very quick to use. As for the player itself Its just superb. I have put my bulky stacking stereo in the loft and just listen to this through speakers, the sound quality is that good. My only gripe is the battery life, 20 hours no way, my journey too and from work is 3 hours, and I have to charge each day otherwise it runs out on the 2nd day, even without skipping tracks etc. But its a small price to pay in my opinion.

"Great hardware makes up for terrible software" on by cnetislame
Pros: Amazing sound quality, great look and feel, Plenty of shuffle and organisation options, Scratch resistant
Cons: No colour screen or FM radio
Summary: The Sony NW-A1200 is undoubtedly one of the best looking mp3 players ever. I'll leave that where it is. The sound quality is something you'll have to hear to believe, and it kicks the iPod's butt at this! Sadly, the arrival of the 8gb iPod Nano, albeit for $50 more, does highlight the issue of the absent colour screen. Some might complain that an FM radio should have been included, but the huge success of the iPod points out that this clearly isn't neccesary. The in-box headphones are the best freebies I've ever used, though it's worth investing in some up-market 'phones to truly get the most out of it's sound. It's just a shame that the software is so awful. If you can afford to let go of the 130mb ram it takes to run, and are patient enough to ignore it's bug-a-minute habits, you won't have any issues with the software.
Despite it's shortcomings, the Walkman is a truly fantastic player, you just have to be able to put up with people staring at it!
