"Great player, utility available to bypass sonicstage." on by krraviji
Pros: Very compact, great audio quality, battery life, usb connector built in. No drivers needed for windows, just download free "NW-E00x Mp3 File Manager" and store in the player.
Cons: Buttons couls have been all in one side.
Summary: Downloaded "NW-E00x Mp3 File Manager" and copied to player under windows explorer, now I don't need sonic stage any more. This utility works in Windows & Linux and no installation needed.

"Good for basic listening" on by ak-93
Pros: 28 Hour batt life, 3min charge = 3 hours playback.
Cons: Sonicstage software, Volume limit!
Summary: This is a very nice and sleek player. i have owned one for a short amount of time but it has served me well. If you like decent volumed music with slight clarity... then this if for you. If you BLARE your music DO NOT BUY THIS. You will regret it lol. I would prefer sony to creat plug and play walkmans as sonicstage is like an itunes scenario and annoys everyone!

"Sonicstage - more hassle than it's worth. US$80 radio." on by xanmeo
Pros: Nice display, good sound quality
Cons: Software crashes, 100% cpu, slow, no search
Summary: The player itself is fine with a handy track info display and good sound quality.
Sonicstage is the only way of transferring music files to this device (unless you use some third party hacks that require you to completely erase your MP3 player).
It is the worst software I have ever used. I have a P4 2.8Ghz with HT and 1GB RAM and Sonicstage crashes EVERY TIME I use it.
eg. I try to expand a folder with 20 songs in it - crash.
I try to transfer more than 5 songs at once - crash.
I've tried various suggestions from people on forums but nothing works.
It's not worth the hours it takes just to try to get a couple of songs on this mp3 player.
It's basically a US$80 FM radio.
I used to buy Sony Ericson phones but I'm not buying another Sony product again. -
"SonicStage kills this nice device" on by tmccool
Pros: Compact, easy to use
Cons: SonicStage is horrible.
Summary: I bought two of these for my two daughters. They are easy to use and the controls were not at all difficult. (Kids must be more intuitive than C-Net editors.) The kids thought the display was kind of cool. They can choose different graphics to be displayed while music is playing.
The big killer is the SonicStage software and you must be warned about its limitations. I have XP set up with user accounts. I am the admin and my kids have limited accounts so they don't screw up the settings or install software I don't want. Unfortunately, only admin accounts can use SonicStage to transfer files to the players. Not only do you have to put up with that insanity, but Connect (Sony's MP3 download site) allows only one account per computer! So, if my daughters want to purchase or transfer MP3's, I have to log into my admin account, and they have to use the same Connect account. (This pointed to another issue. Both players came with coupons for 10 free downloads. Because of all the above, we could use only one of the coupons.) I guess Sony is content selling one player per family.
Hardware-wise, this is a nice MP3 player that you can usually find on sale for $60. Software-wise it really, really stinks.Updated
SonicStage configures the player to be used on only one computer. If you try to use it on a another computer, you must reformat the player, which wipes out the tracks. And you can only transfer the tracks from the player to the computer on the original computer that you first connected to. Sony has gone WAY overboard to protect the music companies (of which Sony is one, by the way). -
