"Great sound!"
Pros: Lots of memory, small size, easy to use once it is programed, great sounding earphones, long battery life, intuitive controls
Cons: Poor set up info from the Quick Start Guide
Summary: I am a first time buyer of an mp3 player. My daughter has a SanDisk and an IPod. I am not impressed with the sound quality of either of those units even with upgraded earphones. I read the reviews and user opinion on the new Sony Walkman and was impressed enough to purchase the NWZ-A818 with 8 GB. I'm glad I did. The sound quality is really close to that of a CD.
My only complaint with the player is that it has a default setting that auto synchs to Windows Media Player when you plug it in to the computer. When I first plugged in the player it transferred about 5 GB of photos to the player. I was able to delete the photos with no problem. My main problem was when I deleted CDs from my c-drive memory after I had synched the CD to the Walkman, the same CD selections would be deleted from the Walkman whenever I reconnected the Walkman to the computer. Very frustrating to say the least. The Quick Start Guide and the troubleshooting guide were of no help with this issue. Even my daughter, who is more mp3 savy than me, was perplexed. I was able to get tech support with Sony's 800 number. To their credit I was able to contact them on the first ring with no waiting. I had a very service oriented person who was able solve the problem. The solution is to plug the player into the computer. Once in Window Media Player, click on Sync mode, go to options, then to advance options, and uncheck the auto sync. Simple as that but the Operation Guide, Quick Start Guide, and troubleshooting guide make no mention of this important option to make for a successful set up. My only other complaint is getting video on the Walkman. Explanations in the set up guides are kind of fuzzy. This is not a deal breaker for me as I do not intend to watch much video on a 2 inch screen. But video is a feature that is offered and I would like to be able to download some TV shows just for the heck of it. So far this is a work in progress for me. Kudos to Sony's customer service department. If you do have problems they are of great help. Even with my initial start up problems I would highly recommend this product.
