Pros stunning sound; charges from my PC; small size; starts very very quickly; handy as a pen drive for my PC; can wear it round my neck
Cons I'm going to loose the cap one day when I'm charging this player; can't delete files so not good for podcasts; can't drag and drop music files to this (have to use Sonic stage);
Summary (I have the 4GB version)
I've had a few MP3 players and using loseless ATTRAC files on this player sound better than Lame MP3 and OGG files (ok not quite fair as they aren't loseless). However, the loseless ATTRAC files don't seem to take up that much room (compared to WAV!). I got this player for a very cheap price. I read the reviews and I was dreading using Sonic Stage. However, I didn't find it that hard - insert CD or select folder to import; import; transfer files!
The small size of the player means a small screen so it's hard to see everything that's on the player (Quite often I use the cover flow option to view album covers and select based on the album cover). Also, you can't view the players contents without changing the file you are listening to.
I find this player ideal for albums/tracks that I listen to on a regular basis. I have a couple of players and this is the one I always have with me. The sound quality is better than the iRiver Clix 2 and Creative Zen Nano V plus (admittedly differnt file formats and compression options). It's a great pen drive; I can charge from my laptop directly and I've installed a couple of applications on this player, which I can run directly from any PC.
Cons bad comp connect, crappy software, won't play a lot of different files, or most mp3's !!
Summary I will not buy sony mp3 products ever ! They just don't get it... get a creative and it plays everything... Guess what, they are owned by sony but somehow they just work... drop and drag and u r done...
Pros direct connection to computer
Cons direct connection is fragile, mine to XP thinkpad seems permanently unrecognized; hard to see or feel controls
Pros very lightweight, easy to use
Cons Sometimes the songs repeat on some albums when it should move to the next song
Pros Compact, easy to use, decent sound
Cons Power management, volatility makes this thing unstable and shuts down.
Summary Mine turns off after moderate use - not reliable. The only Walkman we've owned that has had a problem (not as bad as iPod classic battery that did a Chernobyl).Recently rediscovered this and wondered whether it worked. Charged it up and it works fine. I suspect problems were from moisture. Had installed firmware upgrade to 1.2. So this lives in one of the cars and works fine.
