"Excellent Quality MP3 Player" on by wobble
Pros: CD Quality listening pleasure
Cons: None I can think of
Summary: After reading numerous reviews on many MP3 players I settled on Sony. Why? Sound quality kept popping up! Some professional reviewers, including CNET personnel can get over critical, like movie critics. As long as this unit will accept the MOST popular MP3, WMA music codecs, this is all I require. This also applies for the video limited format codecs which I don't think most would want to watch video on this small screen for very long anyway. As long it has the most popular codecs for the novice, this is good enough for me. My preference in choosing this player was first, CD quality, second w FM, and third Photo, and 4th - battery life. I liked CNETS review as stated was so easy to navigate which made my selection a plus too. I am a tech person at my SR age and read before making a purchase. I have had this player for about a month now and CD listening PERFORMANCE is confirmed! The FM radio is picking up stations within a 50 mile radius - Perfect! The navigational layout is extremely easy to use! I up graded the earbuds to $50.00 Denon found at Target. For serious listening at home, I use my AKG K240 Studio headphones. I purchased this W at Walmart for $89.00 and could not be happier with the CD Quality and distance range of FM stations! One fine machine.

"The best sounding mp3 player I have ever heard!!" on by Mp3mizer
Pros: The Sound and the software use of Windows Media Player
Cons: Storage space.
Summary: I have owned a number of MP3 players over the course of several years (IPOD, COWON X5, SONY WALKMAN MP3, and IRIVER). At the present time I own a IPOD Video (5th generation) Player and the Sony Walkman MP3 player. I bought the Sony MP3 player for my wife because she felt she did'nt need alot of gigabytes and just wanted something to listen to when during her daily walk. I order this thing, open the package and placed some music on it. I then went to listen to my uploaded music and was shocked!!! This thing sounded TEN times better than my IPOD, and this was with the cheap SONY earphone that came along with the player. The sound on this player is phenomenon!! The sound actually has clarity, separation, and base without the silly "radio sound" of the IPOD. It also has a equilizer that actually sounds differently with each preset. To make a long story short, I decided to buy one of these players for myself, and to use the IPOD as a storage device for all my music and connect it to my home stereo system where I can tweak and manipulate the sound to fit its imperfects.
Another reason you should buy this player is that it is compatible with windows media player, the player is instantly recognized by the WMP 11, just rip, drag and drop and you're ready to go.
SONY finally have a winner on their hands!!! -
"top-notch product from sony, watch out ipod" on by willest5555
Pros: looks good, great sound, easy to use
Cons: possible quality issues - hopefully not
Summary: aside from quality issue i had (see below), which i'm minimizing for now as i think something freaky happened to the player one day. anyway - to the good stuff. the player is small. easy to use menus. i use with windows media player (which has its own issues, but i've dealt with). buying music from any web-site (walmart, amazon seem to be the easiest) and i've also converted most of my cd's. it doesn't like Apple's new AASC protected format (which is a way for apple to continue to corner the market (big brother)). This is a good player that isn't al bulky as an ipod, but at least has a screen to manage as opposed to the IShuffle. Thanks Sony.
P.S. it worked awesome for a month, then computer zapped it and killed the main board. sent to sony and they replaced it, sent it back. back to working great again. i'll update this review if necessary.
