"rugged but poor control buttons"
Pros: takes vibration and shock without a break in music
Cons: control buttons hard to discriminate by look or feel
Summary: The control buttons on this unit are black plastic against a black plastic case with tiny icons (black of course) that identify function. Six of the buttons are exactly the same size and shape so going by feel is impossible. Display shows only track # and track time elapsed while playing. It takes more than one finger to slide a tab in order to open the case...a good thing because it won't pop open while you are walking/running.
I dropped my unit on a hard bathroom floor but it didn't stop playing. Shake it as you will, it keeps playing flawlessly. It will remember exactly where you stopped playing a CD even in the middle of a track and even if you turn off power, as long as you don't put in a different CD. Good battery life from 2 AA alkaline cells.
