Summary: I previously own NW-S703 (ATRAC Walkman) with noise cancellation. NWZ-S713 series is the right successor to this. It features all the functions like NW-S703 apart from its video and jpeg playback capability.
The player produces excellent Bass due to its Clear technologies (Clear Bass, Clear Stereo, Dynamic Normalizer). I can't see much difference due to DSEE enabled.
My wife is having IPOD nano 3rd generation. Even though the video quality is same(320 X 240 MP4), the difference lies in the sound quality. IPOD is supplied with a junk earphones, while sony gives you a top notch earphones (but you can use only on this player, since it has a small tab for noise cancellation).
The main drawback when compared to its predecessor (NW-S703) is its playback capability with less bit range. For normal type of mp3 songs, 128kbps is sufficient. But if the songs have more Stereo effect, 128 is not sufficient. In other words, more bit rate, more quality (occupies more space too.)
Overall it is a nice player in the Portable Player/Flash Player type category. Highly Recommended!!! -

Cons: Price to Storage Ratio, Doesn't come with any accessories
Summary: This thing is awesome! I am particularity happy with the FM reception on this thing--WOW!!! I can get stations super clear that on a radio at home has problems picking up. Seriously this FM turner is spectacular.
Aside from that the software is super easy to navigate. It syncs with WMP11 without any problems and does so super fast.
The EQ capabilities are superb as are the audio functions that are supported with it. I bought an extra set of Sony ear buds (not the NC ones) for $35 and they sound great with this (and are much smaller and fit better for exercise).
Forget the iPod which has no FM tuner (my wife has one). This thing is great. Sony make great stuff. My only recommendation would be to get the Walkman which fits your needs the best. I got the 4G (which is actually 3.5G). It holds enough songs for me since I like to listen to the same album over and over and then change to a new one. If you want tons of songs get the 8G. other that that if you listen to the radio and are looking for a MP3 player buying this one is a no-brainer. -
