"really dissapointed, crooked headphone jack, ridiculous menus - SKIP" on by merrittixtapa
Pros: Nice screen, you can customize it, like the cradle, it plays wma files fast
Cons: BAD menus - hate - somtimes you have to wait for menus to dissappear - 20 secs - no exit button to cruz through stuff you already know (like the start button on video games).. you have to wait t
Summary: Really dont like this unit, I hit format on the windows interface - thinking it was like most wma compatible players. The thing is blank it wont turn on. Called toshiba, they have hung up on me several times. It was ok when it worked. The menus are so bad. IF you have picked up any other wma compatible player you will find the menus are all the same - on this one they tried to get fancy. Its really bad, you cant surf your collection like with other players. You have to physcially move through each phase and you cant just back up. Its a step by step thing.
The unit they sent me had a crooked headphone jack, the unit doesnt get as loud as my dell. Really stupid buttons. The screen is super good though. You will like that. I will only use this for playlist stuff that will play in my business. If I cant surf my music I dont want it. If I can ever get toshiba on the phone to get it working again.. that would be nice. Until then it will sit. Black screen "system error" Yes- I have tried a firmware update and everything. Yes have tried reinstalling all the software and resetting it and rebooting it. Yes I am a nerd 27 years of being a nerd. No I cant get it back onlne and useable. Really man, so dissed I wont even spell check this entry. I buy ALL toshiba laptops and stuff. they really let us all down on this one. I will buy toshiba again however, J -
"Inferior Product From Toshiba" on by LarryB16
Pros: Toshiba name recognition
Cons: Slow transferring, confusing playlists creations, and not dependable
Summary: Toshiba's MP3 player really lacks the quality of Apple's Ipod. The Gigabeat has slow software, a bothersome cradle, and slow transferring of songs to the device. Furthermore, you're limited to Napster which has little or no customer service. Toshiba's laptops and televisions are excellent; however, MP3 players is not something they have mastered. The next purchase is an Ipod while the Gigabeat goes back in its box.

"Excellent, though unique." on by boardbryce
Pros: Great sound quality, bright clear display
Cons: Must use Windows XP
Summary: This is a great player. For Windows Media Player I didn't even need to install any additional software; as soon as I plugged it in it asked me if I wanted to sync it with WMP. However, I found that I liked the gigabeat software more. The interface is very intuitive, but it's not very similar to that of other mp3 players I have used. It has some really great features, like the A button that is programmable to pretty much whatever you want it to do. I also really like the cross shape of the touchpad. Really the only negative thing about it is there is no support for any other operating systems. I use Mac and Linux, but like most techies I also have a windows box. It would be nice if there was support for Linux, as I'm fairly sure most Mac people wouldn't buy an ipod alternative.

"the pinto of mp3 players" on by stellargoodlife
Pros: not applicable
Cons: counter-intuitive menu, flimsy construction and might just stop turning on in 5 days for absolutely no reason
Summary: if you do decide to buy this product try not to turn the power off, it might just die.
