"dont expect anything from toshiba's end" on by amv1221

Pros: large screen, easy to use

Cons: unreliable, breaks easily, customer service bad

Summary: Although the gigabeat is a nice alternative to the ubiquitous iPod,but folks, just say no. Toshiba doesn't know the meaning of customer service for this product. Save yourself the trouble and heartache. Go for something reliable. My gigabeat hasn't even lasted more than 9 months.

"Not a Happy Camper w/Toshiba Gig..." on by BillNYC

Pros: It was good than .... but not now....

    Cons: NO FM RADIO

Summary: I have the frist one , and i love it, but! when it came to change the battery, i lost it for two weeks and thay charged me 70.00, oh well- so i just order the new The Sony Walkman NWZ-A810 and what i see, it offers a fantastic display, a sleek design and interface, and a stellar rated battery life of 30 hours--plus, it's one of the few players that sounds great right out of the box. Users looking for the whole package (sans FM radio)will be pleased.

"Beautiful and efficient mp3 player" on by bornlikethis38

Pros: Large bright screen, compact, easy user interface, excellent sound and video quality, style points too. Player has lasted me almost a full year now, and i dropped in a bucket of bleach water as well as dropped it repeatedly.

Cons: A little too much glare, had a little trouble with getting the right video settings for the WMV supported.

Summary: Worth the money if you looking for a player cheap mp3/video player, you use windows media player or center, good sound quality, and don't require the use of too much memory.

"Outstanding Audio / Video player and Photo Tote!" on by ben9n

Pros: Crystal Audio Clarity, Excellent Video, Seamless Sync & Transfer with WMP, Easy Drag-n-Drop of Files and Photos ... Beautiful Aesthetics and Design.

    Cons: None to speak of

Summary: I've had this for about two years. As an owner of an ipod (Touch), Sony mp3 Walkman, Slacker Portable Radio and several other pocket audio gadgets, this is right up at (or near) the top of the pile.

I love the easy sync between Windows Media Player, both for Videos and Music. What I love about this, is that WMP will optimize my videos for the Gigabeat during the sync process (brilliant, and helpful!). I discovered that this will sync WELL and easily with Media Monkey as well (I've got the paid version). At the same time, I love being able to simple drag-n-drop without the use of software, and this is my primary method for transferring photos.

Audio - one of the things I look for in MP3 and MP4 players, is the ability to accomodate WMA files as well as MP3. I get that, plus the benefit of being able to store lossless audio - a nice little bonus. The sound quality itself, is as good or better than any MP3 / MP4 player I've owned (and I've owned tons of them).

Design - I love the way this looks! It's sharp, simple, clean and beautiful. The glossy black surface looks almost like piano laquer, elegantly highlighted by striking color in thte lines. I shelled out for the custom Leather Case, which protects it and provides a nice clip for my belt ($29 from the Toshiba site).

It does not have an FM radio, but I'm not counting that as a minus, as it's not something I wanted or needed. For those who complain about this ... why not just buy something that has one???

For those who bemoan the 4GB capacity - why in th world would they buy this to begin with? I'm using this primarily for audio, and for that I'm able to pack it with over a thousand songs in the WMA format, with excellent audio quality. I have another with 60 videos, 500 photos and 400 songs (in MP3 format) loaded into it, and there is yet room for more. Even with videos and photos loaded, I can get enough music in this for a cross-country trip in my car (I've done this).

All in all, this has become one of my favorite gadgets and mp3 players. I love the (relative) large-ness of the screen for both photo and video viewing. I love the design, and crysal audio and everything else about this little gem.

"Great Mp3 for the price!" on by D.M.S.M.P.3

Pros: Affordable, plenty of storage and great sound quality.

Cons: plastic - y and smudgy.

Summary: This is a great mp3 player. I got one for Christmas day and opened it up. The buttons were smooth and tactical. The video is beautiful, even my Grandmother with bad eyes could see it without her glasses clearly. The picture is great, and it is very easy to navigate. I would have liked to have seen a micro sd slot on it, but other than that I love this mp3. When I used it to download songs, it tried to download everything on Windows, so I found a way around that, but otherwise, this is the BEST mp3 player I have used in a long time. Thank You Toshiba. :)
