Contrary to its printing swiftness, the DCP-8040 lagged in scanning speed, averaging 3.4ppm for color and 5.6ppm for grayscale images. However, thanks to its quick printing, the machine copies at an impressive 6.2ppm.
Color scans were decent, with detailed photographs and text. But the quality of colors, especially yellows, could improve. Grayscale scans were dark overall with too much contrast, losing the lightest and darkest ends of the spectrum.
