"Great All-In-One w/o GREAT PRICE! - USB connection! - FANTASTIC!" on by catbr
Pros: Does all it says - Internal paper tray, really AFFORDABLE ink replacement
Cons: May have issues connecting fax if you have DSL phone line
Summary: This is the hardware to purchase if you are looking to buy a printer.
For about the same price as a printer you can get the additional features as well.
The internal paper tray is excellent (especially if there are youngsters who frequent the use of your printer) particularly if you print large amounts of photos at one time - the photo paper remains out of the light.
The scanner reproduces images with crystal clarity.
The ink is supplied by separate colors, so you only replace what needs to be replaced, and bundle packages of the ink cartridges are available for around $40 USD (or less).
The cautions for this machine:
May need to get a 'regular' phone line to have fax working - my local cable company wasn't too helpful regarding connection assistance since I have a DSL phone.
Also for you Vista upgraders - Vista does not automatically install this printer, so don't throw those installation disks away!
You may have to load it 2 or 3 times before it finally goes through, THEN make sure you go to the set up portion to choose it as the default printer (unfortunately you need to warn every user to set it up for the default printer on thier profile before they want to print anything).
This is just basically a GOOD machine.
I've had it since Christmas 2006, and I have not had any problems with it yet -
"Great For The Starter!!!" on by guo_timmy
Pros: Efficient, Reliable, Fast, High Quality Output....
Cons: Ink life is little short
Summary: This Brother MFC 240C is great for any family! It is extremely compact, energy efficient meeting the Energy Star requirements. It is so compact, is it about the same dimensions as an ordinary scanner, just little bit taller.
The printing is fabulous. It can print out amazing documents, text and even images! Capable of printing out 25 pages black per minute, and 20 pages per minute in color.
The scan is also fabulous. Extremely efficient and quick with the included software.
Copier is eye-popping. It can photocopy documents in COLOR that looks just like the original! Absolutely amazing, never seen other MFC with the 240C's copying abilities.
The color fax and PC-fax is excellent. Quality is legible and error free. PC-fax allows you to fax documents saved in the computer without printing out a copy.
Also, this Brother MFC 240C has Photo Capture capabilities allowing you to print out magnificent 4 x 6's without going to the local photo finisher, and without the need of a computer.
Overall, I would DEFINITELY recommend this unit. Has many flaw-free features. Again, the unit is efficient, quick, and an awesome unit for any family! The only one Con I see, is that the starter ink cartridge has a short life.Updated

"Absolute Pig On Ink" on by astatic17
Pros: All functions work well, if your timing is right.
Cons: Ink may be empty before you can even use it.
Summary: I've had my mfc-240c for about half a year, and needed it for the multifunction capabilities. After testing everything out, the product seemed to be a great purchase for the price point.
However, just the other day I was in a crunch to print an important doc and was told by the LCD readout that 3 of the 4 ink cartridges were empty (all the color ones). Impossible, I thought, as I had never, ever printed anything in color to this point (I had probably printed less than 15 total pages up until then).
After doing some research, I found out that each time the annoying 'cleaning process' commences (at completely random times of day or night, despite the system being turned off), the printer siphons off small amounts of ink from each cartridge. So when I needed it most, I was left with no color ink and less than half a cartridge of black ink. Wonderful.
What's more is that the system won't even let you print monochrome if you don't have an acceptable amount of color ink, even if the doc you're printing doesn't require color.
Because of this, I would discourage anyone in the market from purchasing this product. -
"A Waste of Money" on by ozzman13
Pros: I couldn't find anything that pleased me about this printer.
Cons: Will not print labels
Summary: This is probably the worst printer I've ever owned in my life. I purchased it because of the separate ink tanks. (Only one other brand, Epson, has this feature.) When attempting to print CD/DVD labels from NEATO/Fellowes, the printer either locks up and refuses to work ~ or the associated software crashes my computer. If you're into CD's or DVD's, don't waste your money on this unit. (By the way, I called Brother's technical assistance line; they said there was nothing they could do about it.) It's been less than one month since the purchase date.

"Great home-use printer" on by Surrey48
Pros: -Print head never seems to get dirty
-Scanner works great
-Ink is cheap on eBayCons: -Cant print black and white document when a color cartridge is empty
-Card reader is slow to transfer a large number of picturesSummary: On a previous printer, I would have to run a "print head cleaning" if I didn't use the printer after awhile. WIth this printer, it never seems to require this. This is great for those who don't print a whole lot.
Ink is expensive in stores, but the ink I get off ebay work just fine. The ink monitor still works when using third-party ink cartridges.
