"Cheap printer, cheap performance" on by r9russ
Pros: All four functions work reliably.
Cons: Clumsy, complex paper feed mechanism (never did figure out how to load 4x6 photo paper.) No quick-load or priority paper feed. An empty ink cartridge blocks all operations, including Fax and Scan, which have nothing to do with ink. Frustrating!
Summary: The paper feed mechanism is a mechanical nightmare. With no quick load or priority paper tray, you have to pull out the internal tray, load the sheet, and replace the internal tray. But the BIGGEST problem with this box is its incessant demands to replace the printer cartridge. I primarily use the scanner function, but you can't even do that if one of the 4 cartridges is registering "empty" (which it probably isn't). The machine refuse to let you do ANYTHING until you replace the allegedly empty cartridge. WHAT DOES AN INK CARTRIDGE HAVE TO DO WITH A SCAN OR FAX OPERATION??? This is my first and last Brother printer.

"great buy for the money (around $110 at staples)" on by mpantera15
Pros: does it all, good quality printer for small home office or small business
Cons: wireless would've been nice, too many fax options, since I don't even really use faxes anymore
Summary: seems well built, and for the price you can't beat it (around$110 at staples). It even comes with the print cartridges you need to get started.
I was looking for a good all-in-one and was getting rid of my hp. I like the brother brand for fax machines, so I decided to give this a try. so far everything works as promised. -
"Absolutely Fantastic. Love Brother Printers." on by bubuspidecky
Pros: Excellent Network Print, Scan, Fax software.
Great Print Quality.
Easily load Envelopes and Photo paper.
Integrates well with Office Products.
Easily refillable ink carts.
If you don't use it much. Just unplug it to stop the daily ink cleaning.Cons: Not really any. But does require a firmware upgrade to prevent the "All Functions Blocked" when an ink tank is empty.
Summary: Best darn Multi Function printer out there for the money.

"How long is reasonable to expect a printer to last?" on by itsmedan
Pros: Did everything and did it well. The software it came with was decent as well. Networking.
Cons: Will only last 2 years at most - I think typical of the Brother MFCs
Summary: Well call me gullable - I bought this one to replace a earlier model MFC by Brother. I liked that one too but it only lasted 2 years also. Ink was relatively inexpensive - but maybe it all evens out? This printer started having trouble with cleaning, then, it grew into just constant "Unable to Print XX" error codes, FA, then 8A, then finally 30. Not worth taking to a service shop - the hassle, the drive, the repair cost - heck just buy a new printer - next time WON'T BE A BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!

"Worst multi-function printer I ever had." on by garricksv
Pros: Cheap compatible ink cartridges. Page scan feed mechanism does not jam, which was a frequent my problem with a previous HP printer
Cons: Poor print quality, constantly get "unable to print" error. Does "cleaning" every few days, cleaning delay causes print job to fail. Scanned images are scewed/tilted)to a side.
Summary: Complete garbage and that is where it will be after cartridges run out, Buy something else....
