"Despite its many features, its many weaknesses degrades its strengths." on by AJ_da_bomb

Pros: Brother MFC-640C is an all-in-one machine wih an excellent, easy-to-set up networking capability, It is small, compact, and has many features including SD, Flash reader slot for printing photos

Cons: However, its slow printing speed, and its overall slow performance are disadvantages that comes with its compact size and cheaper price

Summary: Although initially it may seem impressive beacuse of its compact size, and variety of features, this all-in-one small office machine may be problematic as it was to me.
The software setup for wireless networking was suprisingly simple and worked correctly the very first time I installed it in my networked computers. Also because I am able to flawlessly print to and scan from this machine through my networked computers shows that Brother does have its strengths in integrating network capability to this MFC (multi-function-center).
However, it has many problems. 1) Printing is slow avg. 15ppm in med quality 2)Sending faxes is slow but it works; receiving faxes however has many some problems especially if you have only one phone line (which I have). I assumed a fax machine should be able to automatically receive fax calls but it causes problems

"Drinks ink like a cat drinks milk - DONT BUY IT !" on by hellerup

Pros: Low price - low quality

Cons: Drinks ink like a cat drinks milk

    Summary: WARNING ! ACHTUNG ! ALERTA !

This is propably as close as you can get to fraud.

This machine will clean its mechanisme on regulary basis during the day, or when each time it is used. Each time it use a little ink from each of the 4 cardridges.

When one of the cardridges is empty, the printer will shut down, and you cant use it, even the B/W cardridge is full.

Only solution is to shut it down when not in use, but if you use it also as a fax ......

    DONT BUY THIS PRINTER !

Cons: Don't use it, it becomes a desk weight.

Summary: It's going in the garbage

"MAYBE Ok if you're an IT Professor" on by juzzywuzzy

Pros: Is capable of doing the basic stuff if you have somehow managed to set it up exactly right.

Cons: I need to run mine on a wireless network. For this, it is completely and utterly useless. If you have a LOT of IT knowledge it might be ok, but for the merely better-than-average, forget it. Never buying anything Brother again.

I suspect KMA1623 is the sales manager for the company, or his brother, or someone who owes the sales manager lots of money. Can't stand the "product" and there's NOTHING to make you like it enough to write a favourable review. Why can't you use it in Greyscale mode when the colour cartridges are empty??? - Do you need the answer explained to you?! One word: Profits.
