"Worse than worthless, You will waste money on it." on by Jdawg1122
Pros: Multifunctional when it isn't breaking down.
Cons: I populated my office with 7420's because I have always trusted the "Brother" name. This one printer has changed all that. I had 3 of them break in exactly the same way. The drive gear snaps off for no reason !! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
Summary: This printer demonstates why Cheaper is NOT better. They have used cheap plastic drive gears that snap for no reason. Avoid this model and any model that uses TN350 toner cartridges!!!!

"An anoying printer" on by skeet2008
Pros: Fast printer, loading tray, good software
Cons: poor graphics printing, paper jams, manual feed not good
Summary: After owning a trouble-free MFC 6800 for 5 years I had to get another brother. But this is a brother by a different mother! The manual feed is useless - really hard to feed paper and has to be fed one at a time; it paper-jams too much; it won't print colors in B&W - they are too light you can barely see them; it hates envelopes and jams 1 in 5. Really dissapointing. Need to take it back.

"Fuser went after 14 months quoted $330 to replace" on by bripen
Pros: Average quality
Cons: Terrible customer service policy, never again
Summary: Fusers are "consumables" and are not covered under warranty. Buyer beware. Would never recommend that anyone deals with Brother.

"Worst product from Brother, but great warranty!" on by sanjsukerkar
Pros: Excellent quality
Cons: One problem after another
Summary: Puchased this product 8 months ago - since then its been one problem after another. Just few months after the purchase, the product started giving me 'Paper Jam' errors without any real paper jams. So after a long fight with customer support, the company was nice enough to replace my new unit with a 'refurbished' unit. A month after that unit arrived, I realized that they had replaced my 'print faulty' unit with 'fax faulty' unit. This unit I have now prints great without any errors but doesnt fax well. It will send out every 1 in 10 attempts to fax out. The issues have gotten so frustrating, I have pledged to not purchase any Brother product ever! Would never recommend this company nor product to anyone.

"It really doesn't save you money" on by RMKJ
Pros: Cheap to buy. It prints and faxes.
Cons: Fragile and expensive drum replacement required. Scanner is only B&W and produces very poor copies.
Summary: Terrible engineering - the toner cartridge is hard to replace, and the process of replacing it exposes the photoelectric drum and the drum is easily damaged. The drum replacement cost (which I had to replace after one cartridge) wipes out any price differential with HP in the original purchase price. The scanner is only B&W, and produces poor very poor copies.
The reply is correct, but the scan function is one more weirdness of this device. In order to get a color scan, the MFC-7420 has to be plugged directly into the computer. That is, even if one is using the MFC on a network for printing, one has to unplug it from the router and plug it into the computer USB port to make a color scan.

And replug it into the router for printing.
And the liquid crystal display is nearly unreadable.
I suppose that no one is likely to be buying such an antique anyway, but I wanted to set the record straight.
