"Great for Printing and copying--AWFUL for scanning"
Pros: Print quality is excellent, copy quality is excellent. In fact, the printer portion of this machine is hard to beat, but...
Cons: Talk about a lousy scanning system. ScanSoft PaperPort software crashes EVERY time which requires use of Brother Control Center 3 software. Scan speed is atrocious. It took over an hour to scan a 1-page color document.
Summary: Brother makes quality printers, but should stick to that. I have reinstalled PaperPort software three times, making sure to follow the instructions to the letter. Still it NEVER fails to crash. It is WORTHLESS. I have been in contact with telephone support, and they keep telling me I need to reduce resolution and scan in black and white. My old Epson stand-alone scanner performed very well and at pretty decent speed at the same resolutions that I am trying to obtain from the MFC-7840. I am so sorry I replaced it and my Brother HL-1440 standalone printer for THIS.
