Pros: Works perfectly as a shared printer between a couple of Mac's and a couple of PC's.
Cons: Since I'm required to put something here, I'll note the cooling fan could be quieter - but it's really not that big a deal.
Summary: Until now we've been using a Dell 1600n MFP. Since we're so happy with it, we're naturally pre-disposed to buy it's successor (Dell 1815dn), but we have a new arrival to consider...
A pair of Mac's have taken up permanent residence in our household. We bought one, liked it so much we bought a second. Now we need to make sure a new MFP will work with the Mac too! Dell says the 1815dn does, but a call to their support line reveals that's only through a USB connection. How ridiculous is that? Time to look at other manufacturers for a network workhorse.
HP's 3055 and Brother's 8460n both garnered good reviews. The HP had no negative comments, while the Brother was noted as a slow scanner. Since the HP carries a 50% premium on the Brother, we decided to take the leap of faith and buy the Brother.
Now it wasn't that much of a leap, but if anyone was going to have issues with slow scanning - it'd be me.... I fretted about this for weeks.
What was I afraid of? I bought this MFP and had it printing and scanning over a wireless network in less than 30 mins. This includes the time it took to set-up 4 computers to work with it.
The machine behaves like a dream. It doesn't matter which computer I use (Mac/PC), the Brother performs flawlessly.
What about the slow scanning?
Yes, it was not nice to put a 10 page document in the feeder and wait several minutes for it to scan. Fatal flaw? Hardly. I checked the default settings and found it was scanning in 24bit colour at 1,200dpi!! Scaling this down to Grey (error diffusion) at 400dpi is perfectly acceptable and it scans those ten pages in less than a minute now.
This MFP easily matches the performance of our beloved Dell. Speaking of the 1600n, since it won't work with the Mac, we're retiring it to an office where it'll live with other dinosaurs... PCs!
This is our first experience with a Brother device and it's been excellent. Glad it works so well with the Mac, glad the performance is better than expected and glad I didn't listen to (the few) negative comments.
Dude, it's better than the Dell!

Pros: Very durable, reliable, no complications, can handle volume, not a noisy printer, cartridge last a long time, copies are of quality, very few jams if any. GREAT PRINTER
Cons: I have no issues with this printer and I've had it for 7+ years.
Summary: Definitely made me a Brother fan. This printer was made to last.

Pros: great printing and scanning, fast
Cons: does not have any, really.
Summary: I have tried other all in ones and was always disappointed with something, mostly the scan features. This ones prints great (from the tray you want it to!), scans great and fast. I scan lots of legal documents (to pdf) and this scans them much faster with better quality without a huge file size. After comparing the brother is much cheaper to maintain and print then others too. The software is simply and doesn't bog the computer down. Sick with Brother, you wont be sorry.

Pros: Low printing cost, good print quality, easy to use
Cons: Poor scanner quality
Summary: We run a small public accounting practice and have been using our 8460 for about three months. It replaces an old laser printer, photocopier and fax machine -- and is doing a great job. We chose it because of our printing volumes -- tax returns, financials, letters, etc. for about 200 clients each year.
The toner life is decent, print quality excellent and set-up was a breeze. We've had no problems with the machine.
The scanner quality is adequate for text, which is all we use it for.
The 8460 performs far better through the USB port than the parallel port.
Yes, it wrinkles envelopes a bit, but that seems to be a problem with all low-cost laser printers -- and they're still usable.
