    "Not good with MAC's"

by Kona Boat on January 21, 2008

Pros: This is a great printer if your on a PC

Cons: For some reason MAC updates are far and few

Summary: I purchased this copier for my home/business. I've been a Brother MFC customer for the past five years. This year, I decided to upgrade and go with the color laser printer. I've switched my main computer over to an iMac.

My only complaint I really have with this printer is the fact that it will not print envelopes. Seems like such a small trivial issue, but I print many envelopes throughout the month.

I called Brother Support, and they acknowledge the issue and indicated that they "will have an update soon" with regards to this glitch. That was two months ago and they still have not updated any issue with regards to MAC.

Other than this small concern, it's a great printer. I just wish Brother would figure out that MAC computers are going to play a bigger roll with their customers down the road, and I wish they would get moving on the few software glitches they have.

I have this printer use a MacBook Pro and print envelopes all the time. Not sure why you can't. My only complaint is it (and it's my fault for not paying attention) is it's can't print postscript. Using Quark Xpress, I need to save as a PDF to print. Otherwise this is an awesome multifunction device.

I am wondering if Kona gained more satisfaction with the printer over the last year??

Appreciate this review, as I too am a Mac user! I was considering this printer, but will look for another company that values Mac. It peeves me in this day (economy) that any company's C/S acknowledges a problem, but decides to ignor the issue! Yes, I'm aware that the decision is based on cost and the number of Mac users. However, why build something for Mac and then basically infer we don't know when or if ever there will be a fix. I mean they might as well post on all websites the following message: "Mac users buy at your own risk" all features may not be supported and we don't care about your customer service needs!!!!! If you build a product SUPPORT IT!!!! Maybe Feedback 3 will address this type of issues because I can't see how any company who builds a product with certain specifications can fail to honor/deliver on fixes...UNLESS they want to offer a FULL REFUND.

Before I bought this printer, I called Brother support to ask about the envelope issue, since this would have been the factor that influenced my purchase. I was assured that this had been fixed for Macs (I own a G5 iMac). I bought the printer and am very pleased with it and its Envelopes print perfectly and all of the functions are work great with my computer. By the way, the Brother support team is excellent. I have called twice and have never had to wait for a customer service rep to thoroughly answer my issues.
