"Great Home Printer, better network support required" on by ExpUser`
Pros: Small, quiet, nice print quality
Cons: Lousy Vista Network support
Summary: I really like the printer, software bundle is adequate, if "un-extraordinary". Printing and other use from a USB port is good; network printing is adequate when it works, but often enough (using DHCP) the network print jobs won't start until you manuallu turn the printer off and on again.
This would be an excellent printer if it had networked "scan to PC" support. -
"Decent machine, for a while" on by DavidLFiol
Pros: Well, it looks nice and worked out of the box fairly intuitively. Print quality was good.
Cons: Both printer and copier/scanner often produce crooked images because the sheet feeders are unreliable. After 15 months printer jammed and would not clear; shop advised that the model is so hard to fix it didn't pay to try. Now useless.
Summary: Not a stellar performer at any point, and not durable to boot. Stay away!

"This is a great home all-in-one." on by MPH30102
Pros: The print and warm-up speeds are very fast, double-sided printing works well, print quality is consistently good and the unit is attractive. I love this machine.
Cons: I can find no weaknesses in this product.
Summary: This all-in-one has everything I want in a home machine, and it actually performs more like an expensive office-grade machine. I'm very impressed with the duplex printing feature and am pleased with the print quality. Print speed and warm-up speed are very impressive. In my opinion, this machine is the best value in its market segment by far.

"Can't network properly with Macs running 10.5.6" on by raedward
Pros: fast, quiet, good print quality
Cons: poor Mac compatibility - drivers are probably outdated
Summary: I should have read mtthwbrnd's review before I bought this printer - I also tore my hair our for a week trying to get this to network with Macs. Canon support was worthless - they suggested I buy a different router/switch.
Even using Windows computers on the network, the printer would not wake from sleep when sent jobs. I never got a Mac job to work - Canon needs to rewrite its drivers to work with Mac OS 10.5.X -
"Decent hardware, with terrible user interface" on by acaustin
Pros: Fast scanning & printing. Duplex unit very useful. Easy to share across network, etc.
Cons: TERRIBLE user interface. Frequently, pressing buttons (e.g., to switch from copy to scan to fax mode) doesn't work--the printer just beeps at you unhelpfully. Changing printer configuration using these buttons on the front is equally frustrating.
Summary: I use multi-function devices at work (mostly Xerox) and they're fantastic. (Granted, they're also much more expensive). The experience using this is quite the opposite. The hardware itself is great--Canon's engineers really did a great job. But their software designers need to be replaced. Ditto for the folks that wrote the manual. Until they come up with a better user experience, I'm shopping elsewhere.
