"Canon Sucks" on by inmyopinion
Pros: It is an all-in-one machine
Cons: Their options always fall short of the competition
Summary: This is the last time I buy a Canon Product. I bought this machine and returned it for reasons that I will describe below.
First, the hardware stuff. Canon has a problem with the rollers and the device that grabs the paper from the paper tray wearing out and breaking. Also, while this machine looks good in the pictures, the paper tray is designed so that it doesnt fit the machine and it takes up alot of space sticking out the back. ALso they warn you in the set up procedures that if you slide it in on the slightest angle (something we all do from time-to-time) there are a few parts that will break.
Now the software stuff that you might not think about but is very important to how well the machine works overall:
As I got to "know" the machine, I realized that I should have bought a competitors product because of a philosophy Canon has about their products. Canon always falls short of having good options that would make using the machine convenient. What you see on the box and in the literature looks impressive, but Canon leaves out important options that their competition has. When you call Canon and ask them about stuff that should be on the machine, they try to get you to buy a “business” category product (significantly more money) to get those options. Also, every company tries to cut costs, but Canon will make newer versions with less options that older ones they replace. Isn’t a newer model supposed to have MORE options than the old one?
As I said, I had the previous version of this machine and it had software that went with it, and one thing the PREVIOUS version DID have was the ability to download incoming faxes to software. I emphasize "did" because, due to their underhanded way of doing business, they cut that option out of the newer machine. This is something that almost every other machine out there has now. I couldn't imagine why Canon would cut out this option. Isnt a newer model supposed to have MORE options than the old one? I made the mistake of assuming that the newer model of Canon’s would be better than the older one.
Lastly, I "upgraded" to the newer model because with Windows XP, Canon couldn't make a driver that worked for the old machine. Quite frankly, I find that hard to believe. I think that they just wanted to push people to buy another product. When I contacted them and asked why they took the software option for incoming faxes out, they told me that I would have to buy a business product (significantly more money) to get that option. I think this company will nickel and dime you to death with their laziness and underhanded ways. Beware of Canon! -
"Reliable but not very user friendly." on by louigi909
Pros: Excellent print quality, good output speed.
Cons: Difficult to change settings.
Summary: I have been using this multifunction printer for over a year now. I find that it is very reliable for my medium office duty needs. Paper jams are few and far between in the printer or automatic document feeder. The toner cartritge, which is also the printer drum, is economical when you consider it now sells for around $79 and provides 2000+ pages and each time you replace it you replace the printer drum. The copier and FAX work very smoothly with or without the automatic document feeder. With all this going for this machine I find it hard to believe Canon hasn't put much thought into the accompaning software and user manual. Little can be done for printer, FAX, or copy settings from the software and using the key pad requires wading through countless menues and often not finding what you are looking for. One fatal mistake with this unit is when you activate the "alarm," such as "wrong paper size," the only way to silence the alarm and reset the machine to default is to unplug for about five minutes and start over. Unless I read reviews that convinced me that Canon has put more thought into software and user friendly controls I would not purchase a Canon printer, copier, FAX again.

"Easy to Use Multifunction" on by DaveGfargo
Pros: Easy to Use, good copy quality
Cons: Scanner Light never turns off, no power switch
Summary: I purchased the 5750 last Friday primarily as a home copier/scanner. I noticed that the scanner bulb stays on 24/7 even when it is in standby. It appears to use a CCFL bulb which typically has a 10,000 to 40,000 hour life. At 10K hours it would only last 1 year. I contacted Canon and they said this is normal operation and if the bulb needed to be replaced the unit would have to be sent in for service. Now I am wondering if I should just return it or buy the extended 2 year warranty for $50 more.

"Very Impressed!" on by shooting4starz
Pros: Fast, easy installation
Cons: Copies are faily light in colour
Summary: When I read the review stating that this Canon product 'sucked', I had to write. I am very happy with this unit. I run a small office and this is the third all-in-one that I have tried. It is also the first to meet my approval. The top loader is excellent and fast for my small office use and the installation could not have been easier. Overall I think this product is great. The only con I will mention is that I had to really turn up the darkness level for the text, in order to get the quality that I was seeking. Besides that...I'm very happy.

"Worst Priduct I've ever owned" on by plungerhead69
Pros: There is nothing good about this product
Cons: Bad function, no support, less features than you would expect
Summary: I can't say enough bad things about this lemon. To start with, is has poor or no interface that lets you adjust settings through your PC. It makes the most annoying alarm sound whenever there is some kind of error, which is frequently. It is poorly built, and has a goofy paper tray that sticks way out the back. It does not work with any of the print servers I've tried to set it up with.
Settings can only be changed through an archaic, one line LCD menu on the machine, it has very limited configurability. It is almost impossible to switch between legal and letter size, and, again, you will hear that incredibly annoying alarm every time something goes wrong.
Of cousre, it is too late for me to return this printer, so I guess I will be using as a copier and buy a printer that actually works.
As another user pointed out, it seems that Canon deliberately omitted a lot of basic features to punish you for buying this printer instead of one of their more expensive ones.
