"Canon Sucks"
Pros: It is an all-in-one machine
Cons: Their options always fall short of the competition
Summary: This is the last time I buy a Canon Product. I bought this machine and returned it for reasons that I will describe below.
First, the hardware stuff. Canon has a problem with the rollers and the device that grabs the paper from the paper tray wearing out and breaking. Also, while this machine looks good in the pictures, the paper tray is designed so that it doesnt fit the machine and it takes up alot of space sticking out the back. ALso they warn you in the set up procedures that if you slide it in on the slightest angle (something we all do from time-to-time) there are a few parts that will break.
Now the software stuff that you might not think about but is very important to how well the machine works overall:
As I got to "know" the machine, I realized that I should have bought a competitors product because of a philosophy Canon has about their products. Canon always falls short of having good options that would make using the machine convenient. What you see on the box and in the literature looks impressive, but Canon leaves out important options that their competition has. When you call Canon and ask them about stuff that should be on the machine, they try to get you to buy a ?business? category product (significantly more money) to get those options. Also, every company tries to cut costs, but Canon will make newer versions with less options that older ones they replace. Isn?t a newer model supposed to have MORE options than the old one?
As I said, I had the previous version of this machine and it had software that went with it, and one thing the PREVIOUS version DID have was the ability to download incoming faxes to software. I emphasize "did" because, due to their underhanded way of doing business, they cut that option out of the newer machine. This is something that almost every other machine out there has now. I couldn't imagine why Canon would cut out this option. Isnt a newer model supposed to have MORE options than the old one? I made the mistake of assuming that the newer model of Canon?s would be better than the older one.
Lastly, I "upgraded" to the newer model because with Windows XP, Canon couldn't make a driver that worked for the old machine. Quite frankly, I find that hard to believe. I think that they just wanted to push people to buy another product. When I contacted them and asked why they took the software option for incoming faxes out, they told me that I would have to buy a business product (significantly more money) to get that option. I think this company will nickel and dime you to death with their laziness and underhanded ways. Beware of Canon!
