"Great little machine!" on by roots4x
Pros: Good scan quality
Excellent print quality
Network Printing
Scan to File Share
Scan to Email
Scan to USB drive
Small footprint (fits on desk)
Paper feeder (scan and fax)
Large paper capacity
Web-based remote user interface
Many optionsCons: It is slightly slow to print (but I don't really notice)
Limited paper tray options
Somewhat cheap paper feederSummary: I really enjoy this product. I have a degree in computer engineering so for me, setting this up wasn't that difficult. That said, I know if my mom had to set it up, she may very well think that you could only scan with PC software (sorry, but if you write a review on a product, you'd better know how to use that product). You can definitely scan to your PC using just the control panel. You can also scan to a USB drive, to an email address (with some setup), and you can of course, fax out. It handles multiple pages fine using both the paper feeder and from the flatbed as it will prompt if you want to scan additional pages.
UPDATE:
I've never had an issue with printing off the network and I really like all of its abilities.

This printer works fine with Windows 7 x64 Professional. I'm assuming that it will also work with Vista 64-bit as well as any version of Windows 7. -
"Scan-to-folder works" on by m-aiva
Pros: Fast, silent, multifunction
Cons: Printing: cannot choose what paper tray use, it use the first that have paper in.
Summary: Different as stated in the c-net review, this unit can work with scan-to-folder function.
-> As described in Reference manual at section 4.
(one time only)
Enable SBM function in a PC machine, share a folder to "everyone" write rights.
Create new account for Canon MF (user & pass)
In the Canon, assign a one-key address pointing that shared folder.
Note: For folder, user, pass, one-key address keep attention for capitals and lowers.
For every scan:
Go to Canon MF
put sheet on ADF
push send/fax
push the one-key address
push Start (MF get-in sheets)
Return to your seat: from your PC open the shared folder and the scans are there.
Cheers. -
"Not for Vista 64" on by Bill-98
Pros: Prints good quality documents
Cons: Canon software that runs scan and document management functions will not operate on Vista. So, essentially the machine is only a printer in a Vista environment.
Summary: Canon recommend the purchase of a third party software to run the scan function. If you are an XP user or a Vista user that already has third party software that will run this machine might be a good buy. Otherwise looking for a more compatible product would likely be easier and cheaper.
