    "consistently good" on by tomcrisp

Pros: Footprint / Design / Good, quiet printing and copying

Cons: LED readout neds a backlight

Summary: I swapped a working Canon s300 printer and Visioneer One-Touch scanner to gain 2 square feet of desk space. Well worth the effort.

The s300 had been a dependable printer with terrific results for its price range at the time. The new MP130 uses the same bci-24 cartridges: since I have about $100 worth in the drawer, I had a good excuse to upgrade a bit.

The mp130, like the s300, is entry-level, which is perfect for home use - and for me. I'm a writer/artist and print multiple drafts of 100-300 pages on occasion. I never had a blink of trouble from the s300 in the 5 years or so I used it. I expect the same from the mp130. But this printer is a little faster (quite a bit faster in b/w) and much, much quieter.

The copy function is straightforward, and much simpler with an all-in-one than separate scanner and printer. My Visioneer One Touch never was one-touch: functionality was flawed from the start - for instance, light wouldn't turn off between scans, so their support said "shut it off between scans". But that's not how it was supposed to work! When I brought a new computer with Windows ME into the picture, their driver downloads didn't help much - and switching to XP earlier in the year reduced functionality even more.

All good reasons to move up to a new, forward-compatible machine. PLUS a selling price of $90 this week at CompUSA (just until yesterday) couled with a $50 rebate that applies because I bought a laptop this summer. For under $50 (including tax) I brought home this dandy multi-function.

BTW, I do a lot of digital photography, and edit / select photos in photoshop, but I do little printing of photos at home. The price of ink and papers takes the charm out of home photo printing for me. I load my selections onto a cd and have them printed nicely down the street on Kodak machines. For the minimal use I make of photo-print functions this is fine.

    BOTTOM LINE:
    - The bottom line was unbeatable
    - Uses affordable BCI-24 inks, which I already had
    - Decent-looking
    - Very intuitive interface
    - Simple printed user guide
    - Quiet
    - Excellent copier function
    - Excellent b/w printing

"Good so far" on by larryt2

    Pros: Small Ink tanks Inexpensive

    Cons: MP navigator

Summary: I bought this to replace an Epson CX4600 ink guzzler and so far I am very pleased. I would recomend to anyone that owns this machine to Download Scangear toolbox from the canon website and uninstall MPnavigator and scangear and Install Scangear toolbox This adds onscreen
buttons for Scan To Fax Scan to email scan to File and copy it also gives you 3 programible buttons I am not sure why Canon chose MP navigator over scangear Toolbox as it adds alot more function to this multi function

"Cnet review is correct" on by salar86

Pros: Good Looking - decent black and white scan and print

Cons: horrible color scan of basic colored documents

Summary: If it weren't for the incorrect colors and random colors that came out from scanning at low res, I would keep it.

But in that area its just not acceptable.
Maybe will look into other Cannon models since I've had good experience with the company.

    Updated
Color scanning got a lot better at higher resolutions.
Was really satisfied with it after that.

    Highly recomended.

"Poor all-in one. Avoid." on by sim_e_on

    Pros: Cheap. Relatively compact.

Cons: Small catridges. Below average quality prints. Cartridge problems.

Summary: I've had this printer for about a year. I am not printing very frequently, but anyway:
    1. Cartridges are too small. I don't know if a full black tank is enough for printing some 100 pages!
    2. After several months, a problem appears: LED screen says: "Cartridge jammed". Even if it has been printing a couple of hours ago. It takes a minute or so to navigate thru to the 'Maintenance' section and execute the built-in 'Clean' routine.
Also I am experiencing either a problem with cartridge alignment, or some of my nozzles don't work (though I changed the cartridge recently and it shows again) - there's a white streak along the text repeating itself every few centimetres or so.
    3. If you need a quick single page printed to go, forget it. After you send it, it starts clicking, then thinks, then emits some weird sounds, thinks again... it all takes about a minute.
    4. Image quality is a bit below the average. I've had several inkjets so far and this one is definitely one of the poorest in image quaity.

So, overall, a dissapointing buy for me. Stay away, if you can!

"Printer will stop working after so many copies" on by koflack

    Pros: None with this deception

Cons: Printer will stop working after so many copies

Summary: I have had this printer for about two years and it displayed the error message: "Waste absorber full" and would not work. Canon customer service said it could not be fixed and told me to buy a new printer. After searching the Internet, I discovered there is a simple service code fix that resets the counter and it now works fine. Canon is very deceitful!
