"Go Get 1 4 yourself!" on by KNOCKTURNAL

    Pros: Excellent Print Quality

Cons: Software Installation can be tricky!

Summary: As a long time owner of a HP 930C I had grown tired of the high ink cost of "old reliable". I was always skeptical of "all in one devices". I originally intended to purchase the Canon MP780. This fit our needs a little better because we didn't have to have fax capabilities. The MP 500 has card reader slots and an LCD screen for photo printing. The appearance of the machine is nice. It is far superior to our old HP in Print speed & quality. I can print 3 pages of text in the time it took me before to print one page. Photo quality on inkjet paper is well above average, its outstanding on photo paper. Scans better than our last HP flatbed scanner (about 4 years old). The software was the only drawback it was a pain to install and configure. Once this was worked out the printer performs beautifully. If this matches the HP in reliablity then it in my opinion is one of the best out there under $350.00. One last thing, the ink is cheaper. Our HP ink was about $90.00 for large pack of color and 2 black (about 10 months of heavy use). Oh it also will allow you to print photos directly from a card or pictbridge without the computer, GREAT FEATURE. Copier also works flawlessly!

"One Word : Awesome" on by DilliWalla

Pros: Effortless PC Printing, Photos are just outstanding

    Cons: None so far .

Summary: My first foray into cannon land, I have been a HP person all my life but after reading so many good reviews about their previous models decided to give the new MP 500 a try.
    Verdict:Its Unbelievably Good.
Regular printing and copying was a breeze.
My first attempt at photo printing was such
a seamless pleasure, the software guides you through the whole process. The photo quality was better than your local one hour photo place.
Seldom have I been so happy with an electronic purchase.Give canon a 10!!

"Totally AWESOME!!! A" on by BMC Tackle

    Pros: Everything

    Cons: nothing, zip

Summary: This printer is totally awesome. I have been using my friend's for the last month. Since Hurricane Wilma we still have no phone or cable, so no internet. My friend on the next street has access so I have been using his computer and his printer, the Pixma MP 500, for about a month now. I am totally impressed with this machine. I just put in my order today from Canon directly.

I looked at several other stores, I could have saved about 10 bucks buying from CompUSA, but after about 45 minutes of trying to find all the optional stuff I wanted for it, I gave it up and bought everything from Canon directly. As it turned out, Canon gave me free shipping, which negated the extra $10 I would have saved.

I purchased the Bluetooth BU20 adaptor and the cable as well. I have a computer and a Treo 650. I run an internet business so having ALL possible options open is a must. Lots of new lessons learned after this particular hurricane.

I was unable to find the BU 20 in any of the other stores. I called two stores and they had no clue about this option.

Just to add about the Bluetooth. This was really easy to configure and install. The software looks great, I have only used a few features. The bluetooth option is worth every penny, no more cable. The adaptor works great. Unlike some other bluetooth devices I have configured in the past, this unit worked from the get go, I didn't have to play with it to get it to work.
    Updated
Well after almost a month of heavy duty high volume printing, this printer is still a 10 in my eyes. Superb! I am a new Canon convert. The ink is very reasonable, moreso than the ink for the Epson C62 I was using prior to getting the mp 500, $14 vs $28

This printer is still going STRONG!!! It's been 6 years since I first reviewed it, and it is still working flawlessly.

"Not Bad But Overrated Compare Photos to a Epson Cx7800" on by aaron8484

Pros: High Resoultion.... cheap ink .... Easy to use

Cons: Dye ink Just doesnt Compare , bad Print heads?Epson better please read

Summary: I bought the Mp 500 and the ip6600 together i wanted a photo printer and a all in one.... both of these printers boast 1 picoliter ink droplet sizes and Higest Resoultion printers on the market 9600x2400 im A network administrator and ive been working with computers for 20 years.. but i didnt consider myself an expert on printers... so after all of what i read about these printers i thought there was nothing better for the money... but my daughter bought a Epson Cx7800 all in one.... the Epson has 3 picoliter ink droplets with 5760 x 1440 max resoultion so you would think that the canon would be much better for photos right? Wrong after i printed picture after picture with all my settings adjusted ( we printed the same exact photos out on my mp500 and her cx7800)... her photos come out with better colors they dry faster and have less banding in them... after i researched this i found the reason was epson pigmented ink and micropiezo print heads... pigmented is much better quality and bonds to paper much faster then dye ink( canon's ink)also canon's thermal print heads showd more banding and more pixelation in the photos which i didnt think was possible... the Ip6600 photos which is just a photo printer were still worse then the Epson i also found that in a photo where there was red the Canon tended to make the color more orange and the epson just made the color stand out...The epson Cx7800's software was better ... the Scanner came with a negative film adaptor... the picture looked better... and ITS $50 CHEAPER THEN THE CANON MP500....folks this a no brainer ive done at least 100 tests vs the 2 for photos and scans..the Epson WINS.. After the thermal print head of the mp500 went bad after about 6 months of owning it i had it replaced under the manufactor warranty and sold both of the Canon mp500 and Ip6600 on ebay... and went out and bought the Epson CX7800 and R340 ... much happier with products... very dependable and quiet you cant beat them

"Better than Epson Rx620" on by smoothmc

Pros: photo quality, Smallest print heads on the market, makes a Big differences

    Cons: doesn't scan film

Summary: I just did a photo print test at Best Buy with this printer and the Epson Rx620. This Canon was less noisy in the shadow areas and color was much more vivid. Also with the Epson you could see the doplets or print head marks. Canon uses the smallest print heads on the market. The more inks Epson tries to sell you isn't worth it. This Canon MP500 is better at printing photos and much faster.
