"Scanner requires ink - ink cartriges have predetermined death"
Pros: Good printing and scanning
Cons: 'Defective' smart ink - planned obsolescence
Summary: Great product, however disappointed that Canon engages in the false ink supply system, forcing full ink cartridge replacement.
I specifically chose Canon over Epson in an attempt to avoid this kind of issue. That choice came at a price, the MP520 was double the price of the Epson counterpart. I assumed that the money goes to pay for the product and full tanks of ink as opposed to the Epson limited ink offer, subsidized by future ink purchases at premium prices.
Would you beleive that when an ink cartridge 'dies', printer reports 'the following ink tank cannot be recognized.'. That cartridge for me is brand new and ink inside looks almost full (liquid is visible). That stops printer from working at all, even for printing in black only. What is most annoying is the fact that the scanner stops working as well.
I thought that Canon did not engage in the false ink game such as Epson, Brother and the others, but apparently they do now.
Is it not time consumers boycott this seriously flawed business practice? How far does it have to go before anyone complains?
