"Very disappointed" on by Stacy A
Pros: easy set-up, intuitive interface
Cons: print quality absolutely sucks
Summary: After doing much research for a multifunction printer that does great photo printing, we settled on the MP960. CNET's great reviews were a large factor in the decision. After setup and printing a photo, it was MUCH more grainy than the cheap HP photosmart printer it replaced. We have been unable to find any settings that make an impact in changing the poor quality and the cannontechsupport.com website is just a large ad. full of links to other websites and distributors. Very disappointing.

"Very nice: easy to use." on by atrandom
Pros: Fast enough, user friendly, quality fine for the most part.
Cons: Mediocre photo printing and scanning
Summary: This printer/scanner can't compete with the photo quality I got from my worn out Epson Photo Stylus 960 printer & Perfection 3200 scanner. And it may be too expensive for a work-a-day machine. Still....I like what it can do. Perhaps it's time to get a dedicated photo printer.

"probably the most versatile printer you will find for the money" on by JKMWELDER
Pros: speed, color correctness, versitility, ease of use.
Cons: no networking ability, takes up a large amount of space but these are just little things!
Summary: This is by far one of the best printers out there for its ease of use, color correction, ability to scan photos, negative, and even slides. I guess I had to find something to put in the cons box, but these aren't really bad things as if you want this type of quality then you have to give up some things like space but if you really want this caliber of a printer.

"High price, but you get what you pay for..." on by luv_my_toys
Pros: EXCELLENT photo quality, easy set-up, easy to use
Cons: Bundled software mediocre, limited availibility of ink carts
Summary: After doing extensive research so that I could upgrade my current printer, I saw the review for the Canon MP950. I liked what I read, then I saw that the MP960 was the current model, so I got one. Let me tell you, what an impressive improvement over my old Lexmark x83.
I added a bluetooth dongle (Bluetooth Adapter BU-20), and while printing does take a little longer now, the clutter of wires needed to connect my laptop & PC to the printer is now over!
Overall, I'd say you can't go wrong with this multi-function printer. It accepts 2 types of flash cards, USB capable, has 7 different ink carts (~ $15/ea.), prints pretty fast for the quality, and the scanner seems to work pretty well. You will pay a pretty penny for this printer (I purchased a remanufactured one, saved about $100 over retail), but once you get it home and set up and actually print something, you'll be impressed with how well this printer does its job.
The only knock I have against the package is that the bundled software included with the printer is kind of mediocre.... you have better options with Paint Shop Pro, than with the software...

"Great quality prints, and quick" on by pbhenry
Pros: Print quality, speed, built-in duplexing
Cons: Mediocre scanner, should have built-in networking at this price
Summary: Canon has done a great job with the MP960. Set-up and operation is easy and print quality is very good.
Text and graphic output is very good and pages print very quickly.
The built-in duplexer makes printing double-sided documents quick & easy although I suggest using a quality paper of at least 24lb (96gsm) or heavier to make sure there's no bleed-through when using the duplexer.
Color photos come out great when using Canon Photo Plus glossy 4x6 paper -- in a word, impressive! I haven't experimented with other brands/types of photo paper yet.
If you you only want minimal post-processing, it's easy to drive the printer directly from your camera via the PictBridge interface. I've done this using my Canon Powershot SD530 and it works very well.
You can also plug your memory card (the printer supports several different types) directly into the printer and use the flip-up panel controls to control printing. The LCD screen is bright and clear and the menu structure is easy to use via the scrollwheel.
You can obviously also print from your PC via the USB interface. Annoying, Canon do not supply a USB cable with the printer. At this price, they should.
Finally, you can print via a wireless Bluetooth interface from a PC, cellphone or other device. However, I didn't test this because Bluetooth is an option. Again, at this price, I would expect either the Bluetooth interface or, even better, an Ethernet interface to be standard.
I like the fact that the printer uses 7 cartridges. In theory, this should make consumable replacement more cost-effective -- especially the photo black and dedicated text-black cartridges. However, I'll have to wait and see how this works out in practice.
It's nice that the scanner also lets you scan slides and negatives. Unfortunately, the scanner is pretty slow and, for me, the scan quality seems mediocre -- not up to that of dedicated scanners, although I haven't played with it much.
Overall, I'm very pleased. If Canon had included built-in Ethernet and improved the scanner -- the printer would have rated a near perfect score.
