"Didn't work for me. What a waste of time."
on by orlandocoronelatcPros None for me
Cons I installed the MX410. It was a brief and it worked nicely but after a couple of days I got a communication error was able to use the printer. I got a new one. I attempted to reinstall the printer and this time my OS didn't even detect the printer.
Summary What a complete waste of time.
The MX410 uses 1 cartridge for the three colors which is highly expensive.
I was a Canon loyal customer but after this terible experience I will buy from some other brand -
"DO NOT BUY."
on by edCritPros The scanning function works but nothing else.
Cons Manuals are poorly written and incomplete. Diagrams are useless.
i've installed on my wi fi network correctly since I could scan to my hard drive. When I print from my computer the paper goes through as expected but has nothing on it.Summary Useful information is impossible to find on online and the supplied manuals are worthless. The diagrams are far from illuminating and appear to have no relation to the actual printer. The inkjets are new and properly installed. It print ok during maintenance test. The cost of new ink jets is obscenely high. don't let the seemingly low price fool you. Its too high for an essentially worthless product.
I will under no circumstances purchase another canon product.

"no wireless printing for Mac and iPhones"
on by rayjay53Pros prints okay on USB (Mac) and wireless on windows laptop
Cons no wireless printing for Macs and iPhones -may just be a setup problem but I've tried all variations. No real help from Canon either.
Summary pointless buy if you already have wired printers and use macs
In the mean time we found a friendly tech who helped us with the wireless setup. Working on an old Mac-mini and on a MacBook Pro 2007. With extra software you can also get the iPhone and the iPad to work.

"Good printer for the price."
on by FinchMan215Pros Wireless (b,g,n)
Fax, Scanner, Printer
Easy Install (unless computer challenged)
Decent quality, does the job.Cons Like any other "Ink Jet" there is the cost of the cartiges. They normally run for 24 bucks per cartige. In my opinion not to expensive.
Summary I bought this printer for school work mostly. At $79 is not bad at all. It took me less then 40 mins to set this printer up on 4 computers and my phone. The install is not idiot proof so some basic computer knowledge is necessary. Yet it was fairly simple from my point of view given that my SSID is nonbroadcast and N-only.
Installation was as followed:
Unwrap printer
Plug into power outlet
Install printer using the included CD using the "Network" option only.
The install guides you, when prompted you plug in the USB cable (included) and hit next.(You only need to plug in the USB on the first computer you install in order to set up the network on the printer)
Follow onscreen instructions by simple READING and fill in the blanks. SSID and your KEY/Password. Hit next.
Hit next again and wait....done.
To add additional computers you simply install the printer using the same CD on each computer. Make sure to select the Network option only! not the USB. This time around the software will find the printer in the network and will show up on a list. Select the printer and hit next. Next.. done.
Easy.
It prints slow and the ink usage can be mitigated by simply choosing a lower quality print. I only print black and white word documents so I set it to the lowest setting. I've had this for a lil over 2 weeks now and no problems.
My personal opinion people who have disconnection problems have other computer/network issues and are prob unrelated to the printer. I don't use mac, don't care to much for macs. So my experience is with Windows Vista only. Just to note save yourself the problems and READ the instructions and DON'T PLUG THE USB until the install prompts you.(If USB is required). Good printer Canon is a good brand and I've never had any problems. I recommend this printer HIGHLY for everyday document printing and photo printing(photo printing consumes more ink)its a good deal for the price. -
"Great printer for light, occasional use!!"
on by Starfleet007Pros *Actually, the ink is a very good value. Always buy the extra large cartridges. If you don't use lots of color, buy the standard size and set your machine to print gray-scale only to save on color for only when you need it. Also, set it for fast printin
Cons *LCD screen is small and not back-lit. Not a major thing, but it would have been nice to have been lit.
*In a networked world, I think all printers should have an Ethernet port available.Summary I rated this machine for what it is. For under $100, I wasn't expecting a speed demon. I don't need one for occasional use. The XL black cartridge can do an estimated 401 pages of mixed text and graphics set at the default mode which is the normal setting, not the fast setting. You will have the ink last much longer than you expected set at the fast mode.
Unless you are printing a lot of the same item, this machine with the single multi-color cartridge is great for low color users. Every time you replace the ink, you get a new print head on the cartridge ready for use. I have had the multi cartridge set ups and if you don't use it enough, they can dry up and ruin your built in print head or you will pay a lot of money to replace the print head if its replaceable. I really like this machine and recommend to anyone who fits the criteria for its features.
