"Noisy Slow Ink Situation is HORRIBLE" on by DSPGUY2
Pros: Good print quality. Good scan quality. Good copy quality.
Cons: Printer is VERY slow. Sounds like a factory for a minute before and after printing. Sometimes difficult to get jammed paper unstuck. Canon has found a new plateau of ink cartridge annoyance. ALMOST CAN'T BUY INK FOR IT.
Summary: Before buying this printer, try finding ink cartridges 1st. Then make your decision. Can only buy them on-line for some reason. There are a million options for printing, which is good. Yes you can print last page first, so the user that said the default mode where it leaves the first page on the bottom of the pile, isn't familiar with the options. So many options that it is sometimes hard to find what you want in the print options within the print dialog box when printing.
Duplex is great. I thought the tech support was good. I had a problem with my first unit, which Canon could not get fixed over the phone. Had to send a replacement. There is a spongy material which each page passes across. That piece of sponge started disintegrating after about a year's use. That caused many of the pages to jam. I had to take it to my workshop and fix it. Required a 10 inch pair of tweezers, which I happened to have. Few end users would have been able to fix this themselves which would have left them high and dry.
When saving scans, it defaults to wanting to save your output files in a sub-directory it creates. You have to turn this off for every scan you save. Very annoying. And it only allows short file names. Also very annoying.
It does a good job of scanning, printing, copying, and faxing. Image quality is always good. It just seems that the Canon engineers spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to make everything else about it as annoying as possible. Things which would be easy to fix if they wanted. For these reasons, I would definitely advise against buying this printer.
