"Overall pretty good. Glad I did not read the other reviews prior to ordering this"
Pros: works well with my network with printing and scanning, did not try faxing yet
Cons: took a little time to set up with wireless router
Summary: I had ordered this from Costco after reading the reviews for the older MX700 (Costco did not carry the newer MX?770) so I could return it easily if I could not get it to work. I ordered it before I read the recent bad reviews with missing power cables, and I am glad I did. It will probably install easily with a router with two ethernet jacks. Unfortunately, I have the Apple Airport Express which had only on ethernet jack,so the computer installation program could not autodetect the printer to initialize it. After 60 minutes of fiddling, I was able to manually figure out what the printer IP address was and then it was easy to install the printer as a network printer/scanner/fax and then also install the driver programs to my other two laptops. Once this was done (hooked to the router with an ethernet cable), it works FLAWLESSLY WITH THE WIRELESS ROUTER WITH THE LAPTOP COMPUTERS. This was my greatest source of concern since the reviews/packaging does not mention compatibility with wireless network. Through the wireless internet, I can see the amount of ink left on the computer and I can also scan with the images sent wirelessly to the computer. The B/W and color picture scan quality is good. The printer takes about 15 seconds to think before it starts printing pages, but once it starts it is quicker than my previous Epson 785 EPX injet/HP870CSE and on par with the Brother MFC4350 laser. Picture quality is decent.
I have not tried the sheet feeder, autoduplex, or fax compatibility with the answering machine (we like to use a telephone splitter to the answering machine) since the instructions recommend hooking up the answering machine serially after the MX850.Updated
I have been using it on an almost daily basis for everything from copying, faxing, scanning, printing (all from my wireless laptop) and it works great!
The sheet feeder works well. All the basic pring, copy, fax, scan works well. Still have not tried duplex printing or duplex sheet feeder yet.
The only drawback is that the answering machine has to be connected serially to the machine's phone output jack. If I hook up the answering machine to a phone jack elsewhere in the house, it does not pick up faxes when the answering machine picks up. This means my answering machine is next to the MX850, which is OK, but not the ideal place in my house.
The only disclaimer I have is that I am using in a home setting so I am only printing about 1-4 pages per day.
