"Surprised finally by a printer." on by rdzrdzrdz
Pros: The MX870 was a breeze to set up networking. I have two of the same on the network no confusion with either install.
Dual sided ADF/Scanning rocks and breeze to use
Can do a lot of work from printer without having to involve computerCons: ink cost but that is with every printer these days... .....
Summary: I have had so many problems with printer in the past claiming network/wireless ready yet being a nightmare to connect and stay connected. This was a surprise to have it work flawlessly.
Dual sided ADF scanning is the main reason I bought this. Been waiting for this feature for a while (on cheap printers)
Software supplied is easy to use, wife loves it so far.
She is even willing to install ink. The cartridge lights up when installed correctly so no doubt about install. Very nifty idea!!
Now lets see how long it lasts ;) -
"Truly all in one" on by bhwhite2
Pros: Sanned numerous family photo albums - quick and relatively noiseless. Scanning sofware is superb on Mac/Windows. Quick American/english speaking support. Double sided printing easy Faxing a breaze. Copies quiet and ink friendly. What more
Cons: A bit longer lag time on the driver and the cave like ink jet replacement areas are some really insignificant downs.
Summary: Only had this a labor intensive 2 months but feel like this is an unbiased review with no over or undergrading which so frequently occurs in the ratings world. Used it with both mac and windows vista 32 with no issues. Patient and enuciating english speaking americans for support - can you believe it. The scan software is a breeze and I have scanned as many as 9 photos which come out as individual scans due to the cropping feature. The fax is also easy to use and set up. I have also used the double sided print feature which is super cool and easy for a techno-challenged old 57 year old to use - if not call an American up and get it fixed with no "Whadusay's?" If only HP new how many light years they are behind this curve, they would be doing some in-sourcing for a change. The only unknown left on this is durability and if it's like other Canon products there should be no worry.

"Good quality machine, but slow print speed." on by energy899
Pros: Does what it is advertised to do fairly well. Versatile. Quiet. OEM ink is costly, as it is with most machines. After-market ink is available. It has full wifi- everything can be done from a wireless computer. Some things are tricky to set up,
Cons: First page printing is slow. High quality printing is very slow.High quality printing is needed for many things (where standard worked on previous printers). Regular printing is also slow. First print 30- 40 seconds. 6 pages in about 2 minutes.
Summary: We've had the machine for about 6 weeks. It took awhile to set it up wirelessly. It has some nice features- relatively compact for an all-in-one, does two sided from two sided or two from one, and has two paper trays. But, unless we use it regularly we forget how to do other than normal printing and have to figure it out again for some things. The less than intuitive operations and the slow print speed for some of our jobs resulted in our "3" rating.

"NIce Printer...Does What I Expected!" on by golfjim175
Pros: I'm very satisfied with the Canon MX870 so far! The MX870 prints quickly from both my HP Desktop (wired) and Dell Laptop (wireless) computers using my Linksys WRT600N Wireless Router. Scan function works fine. Haven't used the Fax function.
Cons: If you hook up your phone line to the MX870 (to use the Fax function), you must then plug your landline phone INTO THE MX870.
Summary: I was a little wary of purchasing this machine because of some of the other reviews that mentioned slow printing speed, trouble connecting wirelessly, or poor Canon customer service. I have experienced NONE of those issues.
I spent over 30 years in Sales as a manufacturer's rep. At least 85% of the time when I was called upon to help solve a customer's problem with a product they'd bought, I discovered that the Owner's/Operating Manual was still incased in it's plastic wrapper; NONE of the manual had been studied!
Granted...you CAN buy a product that is defective, but I'll bet that at least half of the people who gave the MX870 a negative review never bothered to read the #@*! Manual before they tried to set it up! -
"Best home printer I've had" on by talkingtoilet
Pros: Efficient all-in-one. Wifi. Excellent display and onboard functions. Good software. Good value.
Cons: Slow-ish. Casette tray awkward pulling in and out.
Summary: I was able to setup a Wifi connection for 2 PC's very quickly -- no problems or issues. The colorful onboard LCD is far more user-friendly and useful than any printer I've seen. It looks and feels very high-tech. Considering I got this for $120, it feels like a huge bargain. Printing (at least via wifi) is definitely on the slow end. Copying is equally slow. The scanning feature is impressive, though, making it easy to scan to email, pdf, etc. Plus, most anything can be done from either the LCD or the computer -- adding versatility.
I did have an issue with the printer saying there is no paper in the cartridge. A call to tech support, and they had me press a few buttons to clean the cartridge rollers, and viola!
Would definitely recommend.
