"Network setup was tough"
Pros: Network scanning is OUTSTANDING!
Cons: Quirky network install. Slow scanning via USB and PaperPort
Summary: I have used Cnet reviews for years and, after reading other's reviews of the 1600n, I was quite hopeful. This is the first time I have been moved enough to write a review.
I purchased this for a remote office to replace a lightning struck HP3330. The noise others refer to is no more than we had with the HP.
Printing is crisp and fast. 20-30 second warm up time after sitting idle.
I was hoping to find an all in one that had a very simple network scan feature for multiple users who cycle through the office. Printing, copying and faxing features were all secondary. Once I was able to get past the install, I am impressed with all.
I recommend not using the USB interface if possible; the USB setup was a breeze but the scanning performance was lackluster, 1-2 pages a minute. The network scan performs at 8 pages a minute. The network scan interface at the desktop is great.
I will be replace existing healthy HP 3330s at 2 other offices because of the network scan.
The Dell support people were pleasant, although not very useful, as they basically sat and listened to me troubleshoot my own way through the install.
If the software install was better, I would have ranked it a 9.
